Men cited in reported assault on Missoula gay couple

MISSOULA — The Missoula Police Department has cited two men accused of an assault on a gay couple in Missoula earlier this month.

Wade Turner, 37, and Steven Niebel, 33, were cited with misdemeanors for assault and disorderly conduct, said Sgt. Travis Welsh.

A couple told police they were leaving the Rhino just before midnight on Feb. 11 when two other men passed them on the sidewalk and yelled a homophobic slur.

One of the men told the Missoulian he was then punched in the face and hit repeatedly. He managed to get back inside the bar to call for help, and said that when he came back, Turner and Niebel were attacking his partner.
