Iranians celebrate nuclear deal: 'This will bring hope to our life'

Tehran residents rejoice and drivers honk their horns after the announcement of a landmark deal that will lift sanctions and avert the threat of war.
Iranians have reacted jubilantly to news of a breakthrough in nuclear negotiations, in the hope it will end years of international isolation and economic hardship and avert the threat of war.
The news from Switzerland was especially sweet coming as Iranians celebrated the final day of their Nowruz new year holidays. Even though newspapers, bazaars and state institutions were closed, many welcomed the landmark agreement which they believe will have a dramatic effect on the lives of ordinary Iranians.
This will bring hope to our life, said Ali, a 34-year-old Tehrani citizen. It was as if someone had blocked my airways but I can now breath. Everyone is happy, weve been waiting for this for too long.

Still can't find the damn thing... It's GOTTA be there somewhere! Cuz them fundies love their war crap SO bad, and Gawd is on THEIR side! They KNOW the mind of God. They just DO!

(8,200 posts)How could that traitor, Obama, snatch the opportunity for killing thousands of Muslim breeders and their despicable children as was so successfully and gleefully accomplished with Shock and Awe in Iraq. The goal of creating so much suffering and chaos has been denied by a secret Muslim who sneaked into the White House. The tears are flowing this Easter in the radical evangelical churches throughout the land of the bigots that they will be denied another Mission Accomplished.

And people that say there are no differences between the parties should remember that. The Iraq War wouldn't have happened if Gore was president and the Iran deal wouldn't have happened under a republican president.

I'm personally deeply pleased - no overjoyed- that President Obama worked to take this significant path despite the opposition of blood thirsty Neo-Con War Hawks occupying both Parties.

(81,608 posts)Oh yeah? STILL think both parties are the same? STILL think they're all identical? Two peas in the same pod? SERIOUSLY?????
Um... which party is it that tried to block this, throw sugar into its engine, throw tacks and broken glass and barbed wire on the pavement in front of the wheels of this car?
Um... which party is it that put 47 signatures on a piece of paper spelling out flat-out TREASON against the President/Commander-in-Chief and sent it to another country - one in the Middle East - specifically and expressly to gum up the works struggling toward an agreement? One country in particular that happens to be right in the heart of some awfully delicate negotiations re: the building up of nuclear arms.
Um... which party was it that went behind the backs of the White House AND the State Department to make mischief and further fuck up the works of the efforts toward negotiation and long-range peace - from which Israel would be a DIRECT beneficiary?
Um... which party is it that's been systematically trying to shove their narrow brand of "Christianist" religion down everybody else's throats, and work and scheme to create loopholes allowing hard-liners to discriminate while their mouths tell you they're doing no such thing?
I could go on...

2. Iran hasn't attacked another country since 1795 and there was no indication that it was planning to do so now.
3. The only government threatening bombing was Israel and its agents in the US Congress.

(6,068 posts)and even if the remark that "Israel should be consigned to history" should be interpreted as a threat to use nuclear weapons, Israel has done plenty of sabre rattling of its own:-
"Israel is not the only country that can be wiped off the map" - Shimon Peres
"We're going to send Lebanon back to the Stone Age"
"A new Amalek (Iran) is arising" - Benjamin Netanyahu (in the Old Testament, God commands the Jews to commit genocide against the nation of Amalek)
The difference is that Israel has 400 multi megaton nuclear warheads and Iran has none.

What country dumped millions of tons of poison on impoverished south east nations, bequeathing them the eternal legacy of birth defects such as these:-
Iran hasn't waged a war of aggression since the time of Darius the Great. They refused to use chemical weapons even in the face of chemical attacks waged against them by Saddam Hussein, chemical weapons that were tenderly provided to the Iraqis by...guess who?
Iran would have to wage bloody war across five continents for a generation to even dream of having the sort of blood on its hands that the United States does.

The Pakistanis, Egyptians and other gulf countries have allied with the Saudis. It is now a ME hegemonic conflict between Saudi Arabia and Iran. Left unattended, this agreement is simply a calm before larger storm...a full regional ME war.
With western powers backing out of the region, Sykes-Picot is truly dead and the borders will rearrange through conflict unless action is taken.
To avert war, there needs to be a regional summit of ME leaders convened, including Iran, Saudi Arabia and Israel. Unless we get them around a table talking, I still have fear for their future.

(24,692 posts)Hardliners in Iran have criticized the preliminary agreement with world powers on their countrys nuclear program. The framework deal, the full details of which have still to be agreed, will see Iran curb sensitive nuclear activities in return for relief from sanctions.
Hossein Shariatmadari, an adviser to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said Iran had exchanged its saddled horse for one with a broken bridle. But many people have been celebrating the deal on the streets of Tehran.
Another conservative analyst, Mehdi Mohammadi, called the deal in no way balanced. He told Fars that it represented a disaster for Fordo, the underground nuclear facility that will remain open but not used for enriching uranium.
Israel meanwhile called it a step in a very, very dangerous direction. Government spokesman Mark Regev said Iran would be left with an expansive nuclear infrastructure and able to pursue what he alleged was its single goal of developing a nuclear weapon.
A cartoon published in The Economist portrays US President Barack Obama shackled to an
Israeli controlled US Congress. Speaker John Boehner who is now in Israel invited Israeli PM
Netanyahu to speak about an Iran deal at a joint session despite objections from the White House .
Similarly , the Iranian hardliners in this Cartoon led by their Supreme leader are also trying
to prevent their president Rouhani from shaking hands with Obama
