Schumer: If US quits deal, US sanctions will still put 'meaningful pressure' on Tehran
Source: Fox News
WASHINGTON The lone Democratic senator to publicly oppose President Barack Obama's nuclear agreement with Iran said Tuesday that even if the U.S. backs away and other countries lift their sanctions, Iran still will feel "meaningful pressure" from the U.S. penalties.
The deal between would curb Iran's nuclear program in exchange for billions of dollars in relief from crippling sanctions.
New York Sen. Chuck Schumer's view sharply contrasts with European leaders who have told U.S. lawmakers that if Congress were to reject the deal, the international sanctions would unravel, undermining global pressure on Iran.
Schumer also said that sanctions aimed at companies that do business with Iran could force U.S. allies and trade partners back to the negotiating table.

(15,460 posts)At least Cotton and Cheney are obvious about their hatred and directions.
Lieberman and Schumer were able to play the insider's game a bit longer but they eventually exposed themselves.

(10,650 posts)If the US backs out, the whole sanctions regime goes with it. Russia and China are not going to keep sanctions. The central reason they participated in the negotiations was to get justification to begin trading with Iran. They will rightly claim that they and Iran fulfilled there parts. If European governments see Russia and China getting lucrative deals with Iran, they too will be forced to allow their businesses to compete there.
Schumer seems to think the US threatening a secondary boycott or sanctions against European businesses would be successful. Good luck with that, you idiot. Most of Europe will tell the US to go pound sand.

Bet Schumer did not expect complete opposition in his own Party to his laughably illogical and factually wrong 10pm on a Thursday letter of betrayal.
And not a single ally to date.

(581 posts)None of them have the knowledge or experience to say NO. IT all about President Obama and their hate for him. This senate and house would prefer to destroy America than have any peace agreement. Who the hell and what expertise does Chuck Schumer have to say NO? And the senate and house is on another vacation. They work only about 1/4 of the year. But collecting full time wages from the taxpayers.
When will the voters get wise to the Senators and House members and defeat them. We need a competent work government in DC, not one on vacation most of the year.

(23,191 posts)He knows that with sanctions from everywhere in the world except the US removed, ours won't matter much. He knows that the most likely reaction to this is war within a few years, yet because that's what his AIPAC funders want, he tries to enable it by pretending things won't go that way
He disgusts me. I've been very anti-Schumer ever since he refused to filibuster either Alito or Roberts. He's a DINO at best and needs to be primaried. I was very glad to take the MoveOn pledge.

(13 posts)Not only is this guy a traitor to the party and to his President who badly needs his loyalty at this time, he's a traitor to the United States of America. To line his own political pockets he will sleep with the AIPACs and other pro Israel lobbies as well as lobbies belonging to the military companies that want war and conflict. You are a disgrace Chuck and I hope our President carries enough of a grudge to see to it that you don't become majority/minority leader. You make me sick.
