Missing Hiker Found Alive After 9 Days Lost in Sierra Nevada

Source: ASSOCIATED PRESS

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) -- Authorities say a missing hiker has been found alive after being lost for nine days in the rugged Sierra Nevada near a Central California wildfire.

A Fresno County Sheriff's search and rescue team located Miyuki Harwood Saturday morning near a reservoir.

Sheriff's spokesman Tony Botti said Harwood was hurt, but he didn't know the extent of her injuries. She was airlifted to a hospital for medical evaluation.

Sheriff Margaret Sims says Harwood had no food and only a water filter that allowed her to drink from a creek.

Very popular among backcountry hikers for their reliability and light weight.

then maybe you can say you got lost in the Sierras. But the rest of the year, it is simple. Just find a canyon or stream or river and go downhill. Anyone who gets lost in the Sierras outside of a complete whiteout blizzard is a complete moron. You have two choices, downhill is to the east or west. Either way, if you follow any water you will end up in civilization. It's not rocket science folks.

I have hiked a lot in the Sierras, flown over it so many times I cannot mention. If you cannot find your way to civilization there then you are a total jackass.

from fires, obscuring sight. You know, circumstances. Not every source of water will lead you to salvation in time. Try to be a little more sensitive.

That worked out super well for him.

All she lost was a few pounds but gained some solitude.
