Trump Pledges To Get Rid Of Gangs
Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump Saturday pledged to give greater power to police officers to "get rid" of gangs. He also promised an announcement on whether he will run as an independent candidate will be made "very soon."
Speaking to the National Federation of Republican Assemblies, Trump said getting rid of gang members in cities like Baltimore and Chicago would be one of the first things he would do as president. "Were going to get rid of those gang members so fast your head will spin," he told the audience.
Trump has previously received attention for some of his statements on crime. The Trump campaign's official position is that Mexico is "taking advantage of the United States by using illegal immigration to export the crime and poverty" from their Mexico to the United States. Trump has also said he would ask Mexico to pay for a wall on the southern U.S. border.
After the event, Trump told the press he would be making a decision soon on whether to run as an independent. The Washington Post reported Trump has to pledge by Sept. 30 not to run as an independent if he wants to appear on the South Carolina primary ballot. Local GOP rules state candidates have to sign a pledge they "intend to support the nominees and platform of the Republican Party in the Nov. 8, 2016, general election."

(23,973 posts)That is how the courts are supposed to work, that's what attorneys do for a living, protect the rights of their clients.
Unless you want even more people innocent of any crime jailed on the say-so of some cop, I'd much rather rely on what is Constitutionally allowable.

At this point i would vote for a trained monkey if it means that trump will not be president.

(53,661 posts)I said for a long time that when they get enough power, the media will be gone, having served their purpose in brainwashing. Then the gloves will come off and the fist will be in our faces.
The possibilities with this mindset are endless. We see it being applied to POC and women in places they can get away with it, just to test us. It's going faster and faster. Is anyone gonna stop this budding dictator, or will we just go along and adapt - since that's what I'm seeing now.
Oh, in case it's needed, here is the icon for the title.

(91,005 posts)...and it is dangerous.
When we elected Barack Obama, it gave us a chance to begin to rectify things, but never forget that as he was being sworn in, certain GOP Senators and Reps. were vowing to oppose every action, every proposal, every idea of Obama's and to make him a one-term president.
And what did Democratic voters do? Bitched that things were not progressing fast enough and stayed home during the midterms, thus guaranteeing a GOP majority in both Houses.
The VRWC has not changed its agenda. The fate of our country still stands on the edge of a knife.
RKP5637
(67,112 posts)their pants/panties are in a twist about something. They might as well join the republican party. The damn fools gave the midterms to the republicans. They peed in their pants at home and felt good while they ushered in the republican regime. Clearly, stupidity at its best. I don't care what their lame excuse is.

(306 posts)He scares you for the right reasons. The kind of person Trump is, reflects exactly the kind of people his voter base is. I fear for our country and for democracy if these kind of people vote for this kind of leader. We are falling headlong into bonafied fascism with the likes of Trump. It's not a joke.... It's not to be taken lightly.... It's already here, and it's getting worse....all that is needed is a charismatic leader and the voter base will forget the atrocities of the past and shout for more in the future.

(10,278 posts)If the 30th is the day that he has to sign a 'support pledge', either he will, and he will become the GOP nominee and will lose the General Election, or he won't and will run an independant campaign, split the vote on their side. Either way, Dems will keep power in the Executive Branch.

(23,946 posts)their last chance bid for fascism...it is not just Trump that is fascist, the GOP has 16 more horses to throw into the race and a fascist-loving cable news will keep things tidy, and of course defend the fascists.

(8,200 posts)The Republican Party has been completely taken over by Fascists. Along with the propagandists at FOX and hate radio they have convinced a large segment of the citizens that their liberties being threaten. It is ironic that the solution that the demagogues are spewing is to elect those who are advocating virtual dictatorial as the solution without any regard for the Constitution that they claim is being abused.

(870 posts)Ive seen this story before. I dont like the idea of comparing trump to hitler because it only fuels their crazy delusions, but hitlers rise to power is too similar to the trump presidential campaign. Right down to restoring the country to its former glory, and the group of people that are responsible for its decline being demonized.

(8,200 posts)Hitler was an especially evil bastard and I don't want to overstate the case. However, it is his tactics that he is emulating which makes him especially dangerous since he is preaching to an electorate that is willing to believe the most absurd charge that this charlatan has preached that Obama is not a citizen. A large percentage of these lemmings have been convinced to even believe that he is secretly a Muslim. The profound ignorance if such a large segment of our population should be discerning if not frightening.

What could do that? you ask yourself.
How about ordering the militarized police -- and "concerned citizens"-- throughout the country to shoot on sight?
After all, those gangs are all made up of black and Hispanic "criminals" and "illegals" as far as he and his base are concerned.

(24,745 posts)"Cop says he pulled over african american "For making direct eye contact"
Earlier this month, a police officer in Dayton, Ohio, tailed a man by the name of John Felton for two miles, then pulled him over for failing to use a turn signal 100 feet prior to making his turn. To be clear: Felton used a turn signal, but he apparently didn't put it on early enough.
Only after handing over a written warning did the officer acknowledge the real reason he'd pulled over Felton, a black man who was driving a car with out-of-state plates: He had "made direct eye contact" with the officer.
The Dayton Police Department confirmed the incident in a statement emailed to The Huffington Post on Friday, and acknowledged that "making direct eye contact with an officer" is not a legitimate reason to be stopped.

Ever get the feeling that some police aren't going to be happy until African Americans are all keeping their heads down to the ground and saying 'Yes masta'? "
And he (Trump the privilege) wants to give the police more power-----------is he that paranoid-apparently so
I remember back in 1969---------long hair middle of the back, bell bottoms, tie die t-shirt, moccasins, and walking down the side walk, spat on the side walk in down town Riverside, CA, a cop happened to be walking up to me , he saw me spit.
The first words out of his mouth, I am going to give you a ticket for spitting------I said really why, he said because only old people can spit, and because it is a health hazard.
I then said what about the old people that spit, is spit, he said they don't spit, they have a right to spit you don't. I then got my 15 dollars ticket for spitting.
I guess he (Trump the privilege) will do what with that power------------put everyone in the brown shirts, with jack boots----there almost there now-------------------this man is truly insane and his lemmings are following him.
And his party has loyalty paperwork in South Carolina--------------I mean think about that for a moment, the party is more important, that goes back to the brown shirt days in 1933, does any one not see the correlation here or is it just me and my state of paranoia with these people

(2,549 posts)somebody went after the most dangerous element in our society, the Wall Street gangs and the banksters who rob people every day with impunity. Just so the Donald knows how to spot a real gangster, please note that they hide in expensive cars and wear slick slippery suits and congregate in mansions and castles while they plot how to steal the wealth and resources of the American people and slaughter people who don't look, dress or act like they do. Maybe the Donald will have himself arrested and deported.

(14,179 posts)The RW base are such idiots that the Republican candidates can just about say anything racist, sexist, or stupid, and then promise them anything...I will ship millions of people back to Mexico and build the Great Wall of America, or I will eliminate all gangs. Gangs in some form or another will always be a part of American city life, especially in the areas of low income. Now can they be reduced? yes. But not by militarizing the police, but by building community centers, offering free or low cost education training, giving those with no hope, some hope.
But RW voters are fools who believe that all it takes is a strong arm ruler who will wave a wand and all the gangs will disappear, a wall will sprout up and no more illegal immigrants will cross over. And that we could easily round up the 11 million illegal immigrants and stuff them onto cattle cars and ship them out overnight. All they need is a "leader" who will say "I will do this!" without the how part.
Damn Democratic voters! You always have to have annoying things like "facts" and "feasibility" and such from your leaders in order to take them seriously. Its a tougher slough.
WDIM
(1,662 posts)Gonna round up all the illegals which will take military action and raiding of countless homes in this country. Talking war on the street.
Now round up all gang members which also would take military action and raiding countless homes in this country.
Trumps presidency sounds more and more like war on our streets and gestapo tactics complete with concentration camps.

(20,250 posts)I gotta give him credit. He knows how to push the buttons of his brand of likely voters.
Not enough jobs? It's not because big corporations have shipped them overseas. It's because of all the illegal immigrants.
Crime? It's not because of lack of opportunity for inner city youth, it's because of GANGS, and let's face it those gang faces ain't white. Oh, and the illegal immigrants are criminals too.
Poor economy? It's because CHINA is crushing us.
FEAR FEAR FEAR
Why doesn't he just come out and say it. The way he'll "Make America Great Again" is to make it WHITE again. If we can just put every single drop of power back into the hands of white males, we will achieve "greatness".

(1,016 posts)They are not based on reality but on riling up his base. Fox viewers are his base, and we all know how informed they are. They live in a mythical bubble and Trump is playing to that. That lives the other GOP candidates trying to outdo Trump, now we have walls with Canada, having FedEx track undocumented workers, all that is possible in the Fox viewer ship base.
It is all pandering to the mythical Fox bubble of reality.
It sure is working.
Uniformed people look at simple solutions for complex problems. Gun shooting at school, simple answer arm teachers, janitors, principals, post parents in parking lots with guns. Now let the dare attack this school

(2,682 posts)it is NOT illegal to be a member of a gang. It IS illegal to commit crimes defined in the federal, state and local laws. So, in order to eliminate gangs, one would think that the members would have to be charged and found guilty of a defined crime before they could be deported or incarcerated. I think there's something about "due process" in some old document that is still in effect.
But Trump may be reading a different document.
