Patti Blagojevich and daughters make prison visit
Source: Chicago Tribune
Patti Blagojevich says she and her two daughters spent the past weekend in Denver visiting imprisoned former Gov. Rod Blagojevich.
In a Facebook posting on Monday, Patti Blagojevich said she and the children were "so happy to see him."
Illinois' former first lady, noting all the children visiting their fathers, also said the visiting room "had to be one of the saddest places on earth."
Blagojevich reported to prison in Littleton, Colo., on March 15 to begin serving a 14-year sentence on corruption charges.

(8,492 posts)He may be one corrupt asshole, but he loved his girls and they loved him. And, 14 years was way out of line just to make a point. Far more evil and corrupt politicians have gotten off with far less.

(4,949 posts)Too bad he didn't love them enough to stay out of trouble. And don't tell me his wife didn't enable him when the takings were profitable! Where was her love for her family then?? This is a prime example of those who may have some love for their family members but they loved money & power more.
Re: taking responsibility for one's actions; Blagojevich and his gang put himself there.
(I'm sure he'll get out early tho for good behavior.)

(17,055 posts)I think he was railroaded while others from that same incident skated. Plus, I can't stand nor do I trust Fitzgerald for one minute. Plus, I have doubts that he actually tried to SELL that seat.
But as to why it makes me sad there's just too many reasons for me to lay out. The whole thing just breaks my heart.

(20,805 posts)Blago was an arrogant asshole that cared more about ambition than what jail would do to his family. Fine. But no-one fucking died because of his actions. Cheney and that giggling murderer side-kick of his are DIRECTLY responsible for the deaths of HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of innocent people, solely due to THEIR arrogance and lies.
Major, MAJOR disconnect there....

(43,227 posts)I do feel for his wife and kids, but what are we going to do? Go lenient simply because one has a family?
The good news is that Blago is still relatively young and by the time the 12-14 sentence ends, he'll still be around to see them and connect with them.
The guy's certainly not evil, but like so many, his hubris got the best of him, and he's got to face up for what he did.
