Virtual Blackout From National Media On Voter Suppression In Florida
Source: thinkprogress.org
Florida Governor Rick Scott (R) has directed his administration to purge the states voting rolls of thousands of registered voters prior to the November election. But his list, which purports to include only non-citizens, targets mostly Democrats and Hispanics and, as ThinkProgress has documented, may disenfranchise hundreds of citizens who are eligible to vote.

(20,166 posts)Nobody but a very small, outraged minority gave a shit about the suppression that happened back then. I was told even by Democratic friends to get over it.
Now it's American democracy that may never get over it.

(20,166 posts)I think Florida's massive (and well documented) voter suppression in 2000 has largely gone down the memory hole.

(5 posts)As a FL resident I can tell you that complying to the voter ID laws are next to impossible. They want everything but a DNA sample and a bucket of money just to change your address on a driver license now. I have never seen anything like it in my 23 years in the state. Democracy is dying and it seems like there is nothing we can do to stop it. Citizens United marked the beginning of the end of our freedom.
Stage a massive vigil outside Scott's mansion. Embarrass the hell out of him.

(1,944 posts)unfortunately, scott is going to be able to get away with it until someone like Obama - says no not happening and sends in the Feds.
If we wait to go through the courts it will take too long and scott and his handlers will have the results they want.
Watch this spread across the nation - it has to be stopped NOW!

Hated Florida Governor Rick Scott has a great idea: A big, massive purge of the states voter roll right before a sure-to-be-close presidential election. The governor ordered his secretary of state to compile a list of registered voters who might not be citizens, based on an unreliable and out-of-date state motor vehicle administration database. The secretary of state made a list and then realized the list was not actually very useful or accurate. Then he resigned, and now Scott is just purging away.
