Eight women who sued the Seattle Archdiocese alleging sexual abuse by former priest Michael Cody, a known sick and dangerous pedophile, reached a $9.1 million settlement with church officials, the archdiocese announced Wednesday night.
Cody, who died at the age 84, served in various parishes in Western Washington during the 1960s and into the late 1970s, preying on children, according to documents from internal correspondence, performance reviews and other records contained in whats known as Codys secret file in the archdiocese.
I deeply regret the abuse by Michael Cody against these victims and I hope this monetary settlement, and the counseling we have provided them, will bring healing and give them a measure of closure so they can move forward, said Seattle Archbishop J. Peter Sartain in a news release.
It also is my hope that these individuals will accept my offer to meet with me so I can offer them my personal apology.

I'm sure they're very sorry, and it won't happen again...
