Bill would make Cardinals official baseball team of Missouri

Source: KSDK

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Missouri is the official home of two excellent major league baseball teams with two dedicated and enthusiastic fan bases, but a state legislator wants to make one team a little more "official" than the other.

A bill filed in the Missouri State House last week would make the St. Louis Cardinals the official baseball team of Missouri.

The bill, filed by Representative Courtney Allen Curtis, states simply:

"The St. Louis Cardinals, which can trace its history in Missouri back to to 1882, are selected for and shall be known as the official baseball team of the state of Missouri."
Royals fans, who celebrated a World Series win just four months ago, are not happy about the proposal.

It's the news media and twitter-spehere that make hay out of silly things like this and ignore the actual important work that he has done for the people of Missouri, specifically in Ferguson where he is from.

You can go to his website to see all of the legislation that he has sponsored or co-sponsored during his time in office.

In comparison to the numerous actual pieces of legislation that he has sponsored or co-sponsored which really impact people living in his state.

Why do we need an official baseball team? And I say that as a life long Cardinals fan.

Now, if they want to change the state bird to a cardinal from a bluebird, I can understand that. I don't see bluebirds very often, but I see cardinals every day.

But, then again, there are more important things to be working on.

Stupid crap like this makes the news, though, while the "important public business" gets ignored.

But it's not actually being considered. No hearing date. Not on the calendar. It's not like they are debating it on the floor or anything.

It isn't actually interfering with any state business in any way.

Even if writing this bill took no time away from his other, important, public business, he had to know how frivolous it would look. Is "the news" duty-bound to suppress some of his actions because they look stupid?

I live in the outskirts of St Louis and a big fan. Yes, the Cards fan base is awesome and it's always cool to see them play.

But pulling this shit about the official team of the state? Even I know how absurd this is. Must be a republicant thing. I can't picture a dem wanting this. Who knows. I'm sure there's more to this story.

(The counties of Iowa are laid out in a grid pattern.)

There was a joke that Iowa could cede the bottom tier of counties to Missouri, and it would double the average I.Q. of both states.

I had to fly out of Kansas City a few times, and the big "local product" sold in the airport was the "You May Be a Redneck..." books and tapes of Jeff Foxworthy. Kind of seemed to give an idea of the mindset of the are.
