Poll: Sanders Pulls Closer to Clinton Than Ever

Source: Fortune

Sen. Bernie Sanders has pulled to within three points of front-runner Hillary Clinton in the Democratic race for president, the smallest deficit yet in Morning Consult’s weekly tracking polls.

The new national poll shows the Vermont independent pulling in 43 percent of Democratic and Democratic-leaning independents’ support, compared to 46 percent for Clinton, whose support has dropped steadily in recent weeks. (In mid-March, Clinton was the first choice for 51 percent of Democratic voters.)

New York could make the Michigan upset pale in comparison as Bernie gains on Hillary in poll after poll. Will this be the final nail in the coffin of 538?

Actually, your question brings up the fact that the numbers should be even more favorable for Sanders in the remaining states. All of the South has voted already (except for border state Kentucky), and the South went for Clinton by about 2 to 1 (66% to 34%).

So if polls like this one are showing Sanders doing about 50-50 nationwide, it stands to reason that Sanders is doing better than 50-50 outside the South. And that's where all the remaining primaries are, except Kentucky.

extrapolating state results from a national poll has no foundation in the science of polling.

If anywhere near half the people who voted for her for senator aren't willing to punch her ticket for prez, that's a really bad sign.

In the poll that really matters, primary and caucus votes, Hillary Clinton is ahead 54-46.
