See no evil, hear no evil: Donald Trump is turning away his intelligence briefings
Source: Salon
President-elect Donald Trump has a disturbing habit of declining his daily intelligence briefings, and thats causing politicians to be concerned.
We find it particularly troubling that President-elect Trump has mostly declined to take the daily intelligence briefing, wrote Sens. Ben Cardin of Maryland and Dianne Feinstein of California, both Democrats, in an editorial for USA Today on Thursday. Presidents and presidents-elect going back decades have begun their day this way understanding national security threats and opportunities, asking probing questions, and making tough decisions.
The senators continue, The information and analysis that our intelligence community provides to decision-makers is invaluable for developing a full and nuanced picture of the world.

Well he wasn't joking when he said he thought he knew better then the generals. This surely couldn't go poorly.

(5,914 posts)We still live in a nuclear age.
I survived decades of a "Cold War" hoping for a "peace dividend" when the Soviet Union collapsed, and it seemed like we didn't have to worry anymore about the launch of weapons that would destroy us within minutes. Soon as I breathed easy that the Cold War was over, we were embroiled in the "Gulf War". Now we are here.
Donald Trump does not understand why it is wrong to use nuclear weapons. We've got them; so why shouldn't we use them? He actually asked about this repeatedly with the advisors that he met with. Now he doesn't meet with any of those advisors. It's just incredible to me that anyone who grew up in the last seven decades doesn't have a clue about any of this.

(3,208 posts)caught when his admin. had to admit there was a briefling about bin Laden and what he was up to. Maybe tRump figures if he says he just ignored them all he won't be busted later if something happens. (not that bu$h and co ever really got busted for anything about 9/11)
(these were just my first thoughts, I still don't really know how or what to think of this whole damn mess!)

Could be the beginning of an actual military coup.
You know it's a possibility.

(56,829 posts)if we get hit with another terrorist attack, Trump will try to ram through a new Patriot Act on steroids that will make the original look like a blueprint for freedom. Anybody that opposes it will be subject to nasty tweets and subsequent death threats from his followers. Heck, at this stage, we might even get a follower that goes too far and kills a person, which could silence a lot of the opposition.

(5,106 posts)"You've covered your ass..." Trump doesn't even want to bother with that. I realize that many of his followers are ignorant and violent, so they'd crucify the Electoral College if they refused to validate his election. Nonetheless, this is an unprecedented situation in our history. Desperate measures are called for. Not eliminating the Electoral College after 2000 was a huge mistake. The Dems have won the popular vote while losing the presidency twice in sixteen years. Since the Republicans have won the popular vote only once (and that was questionable) in the last seven presidential elections, it's no wonder they have been trying so desperately to suppress voting.

(1,570 posts)The intelligence agencies aren't giving him a second chance. It's likely that any briefings he does gets are very short with a few "need to know" details. If he gives them any push-back he'll end up riding in a convertible. Any word on how many briefings Pence is receiving?
