Judge rejects Manafort's bid to move trial further from DC

Source: The Hill

By John Bowden - 07/17/18 05:40 PM EDT

A federal judge on Tuesday rejected a motion from former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort to move his Virginia trial further from the Washington, D.C., media market.

U.S. District Judge T.S. Ellis denied a motion filed by Manafort's attorneys to move the Virginia trial, scheduled for later this month, from Alexandria, Va., to Roanoke, Va., because his attorneys claimed that relentless media coverage of his role in the Trump campaign and the Russia investigation would taint a potential juror pool. "The mere fact that a case has drawn substantial media attention does not, by itself, warrant a change in venue," Ellis wrote in his ruling.

Manafort faces charges of bank fraud and money laundering, as well as lobbying law violations over his work for pro-Russia political parties in Ukraine prior to joining the Trump campaign. He has pleaded not guilty, but a former business associate pleaded guilty to similar charges earlier this year.

There is no "relentless media coverage" and hardly any "coverage" at all except on cable news stations, and even there, it is mainly just 2 stations.... and this would assume that the average person has cable, let alone turns either station on if there's no disaster underway. And regular terrestrial broadcast stations are pretty much limited to evening local news and the 1/2 hour national news (and maybe a 10 pm /11 pm local news), little if any of it having to do with him. And print media is suffering from lack of readership, or so they claim. Almost all of the radio stations that deal with politics (or just about every other subject) are owned by the RW, so they wouldn't be discussing their own except to praise them.

I expect that probably 80% - 90% of the American populace would give you a blank stare if you said the name "Paul Manafort".

I Manafort to sing like Luciano Pavarotti used to. I want him to knock Trump down so far he'll be able to pull his socks up over his head.

I hate Manafort, and I'd really love to see that S.O.B. spend the rest of his life in prison, but given a choice of freeing Manafort or proving Trump is guilty of treason, money laundering etc. I'd open the doors wide for Manafort myself.
