Trump's reelection effort has spent more than $983M, a record sum at this point in the campaign

The president maintains a cash lead over Joe Biden, who is gradually closing the money gap
President Trumps campaign, the Republican Party and two affiliated committees have spent more than $983 million since 2017, a record-breaking sum toward a reelection effort at this point in the presidential campaign, new filings show.
In June alone, Trumps campaign spent $240 million and presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Bidens campaign spent $165 million, as the two sides ramped up their general-election efforts, according to Federal Election Commission filings made public Monday.
Trump has raised and spent money for his reelection since 2017, earlier in his term than previous presidents. At this point in 2012, the Obama campaign, the Democratic Party and a joint fundraising committee had spent roughly half that amount, at about $552 million, federal records show. Trumps 2016 campaign, run on a shoestring budget, cost $878 million.
Despite the historic spending, Trump has been slipping in national polls and approval ratings amid the spread of the novel coronavirus and a weakened economy. Biden holds a double-digit lead nationally and Trump faces a narrow path to victory through electoral-college majority in battleground states, according to a Washington Post analysis.

Exactly where has all that money gone? Surely not for his shitty television ads.

(19,208 posts)At least 25% of that has gone right back into the Trump bank accounts. Fools and their money are soon parted.

(16,616 posts)And you're right, his ads are shitty.
Of course, some of that has gone to Brad Parscale so he could buy Lamborghinis.

(47,778 posts)On what? I wonder what an audit of campaign finances would reveal. We already know about money going into Trump's businesses, but I think there is a whole lot more going on.

(7,947 posts)I think a lot of it went to all his crooked hires-- he's got a campaign staff full of grifters.

(15,209 posts)And they are on TV a lot. Local stations and oddly, MSNBC.
They are crappy ads. I think Brad Parscale had no idea how to run a campaign. But he knew very well how to do useless things and charge a bundle for the service. Hope Brad paid cash for those expensive cars and condos.

(8,900 posts)that most of the "donations" for his inauguration fund were hijacked by Ivanka and steered to the Trump corporations.
They don't need to buy ads. He gives his hour long "press conferences" with two minutes on the virus or something, and the rest of the time he rants and raves about himself and the incredible job the Republicans are doing for the U.S.
If the RepubliCONs hadn't neutered the Federal Election Commission, they would have shut him down on his campaign ads disguised as news conferences........
He and the RepubliCONs are using the U.S. Treasury as their SLUSH fund, and grifting money in every which way they can.......
They have even turned the Covid 19 as an unlimited source of money available so they all can grift it......

(16,254 posts)I'd vote that the majority of those funds have been redirected to Trump's account/family accounts. He knows he's going to lose and is building his laundry li$t to be sent to some foreign country where he can live out the rest of his life.
Has he sold his gold-plated Trump Tower apartment? With all the kickbacks and ill-gotten gains, he should have a pretty luxurious life to the grave.

(49,089 posts)It surely has been skimmed because, surprising to some, skimmers and scammers are easy marks for skimming and scamming. They run very loose operations (financially).
But, regardless, it is expensive to set up local offices and staff them.
Polls are expensive (especially if the boss doesn't believe them and commands more). Focus groups have to be paid and metered and monitored and the data crunched and analyzed.
It costs money to create phone banks, set up servers, raise money from hundreds of thousands of ordinary suckers, beg for big bucks from corrupt beneficiaries, send out massive email & text message campaigns also begging for money.
That's before we get into ad buys and ad production.
Plus, back channels to Russia don't come cheap, even if they go through Sen Johnson and other dubious RepubliCONs.
