The Trump campaign played a song about rich kids dodging the Vietnam War draft which the president did 5 times at a Michigan rally
Alexandra Ma 1 hour ago
President Donald Trump's campaign played a song about rich people dodging the Vietnam War draft which Trump did five times as the president disembarked his plane for a rally in Michigan.
The 1969 song "Fortunate Son," by Creedence Clearwater Revival, blared as Air Force One arrived to crowds of Trump supporters at MBS International Airport in Freeland, Michigan, on Thursday.

The song is sung from the perspective of young men drafted to fight in the Vietnam War who didn't have the powerful connections to avoid going.
As the lyrics say: "Some folks are born silver spoon in hand / Lord, don't they help themselves, no ... It ain't me, it ain't me / I ain't no millionaire's son."

(16,905 posts)Just like when they played Guns and Roses' version of "Live and Let Die" when he visited the mask factory in Arizona. I don't think Trump is smart enough to pull off that level of trolling but he certainly has people around him who are. This is likely viewed by them as "owning the libs".
chowder66
(9,108 posts)They used Rockin In The Free World at the 4th of July event at Mount Rushmore. This was the anti-mask freedom rally. Get it? 'Free World'!
They used Its the End of the World as We Know It at a rally to oppose the Iran deal.
They used 'Livin on the Edge' by Aerosmith where he spoke about immigration.
They used 'You Can't Always Get What You Want' by the Rolling Stones at numerous rallies, many mentioning the wall... basically mocking his supporters that everything he promises is bullshit.
This is about 'telling the underhanded truth' to his supporters though they are too stupid to get it.
There are a couple of others that I don't get but it just may be as simple as he simply likes the songs.... like from Adele.

(2,700 posts)is actually very close to spot on:
You ain't nothin' but a hound dog
Cryin' all the time
You ain't nothin' but a hound dog
Cryin' all the time
Well, you ain't never caught a rabbit
And you ain't no friend of mine
Well they said you was high-classed
Well, that was just a lie
Yeah they said you was high-classed
Well, that was just a lie
Well, you ain't never caught a rabbit
And you ain't no friend of mine
But there are so many songs that should rub the idiot in chief the wrong way -- if only he had horses in his genius stable.

(13,670 posts)would have until he leaves office. It might be tough no matter how wealthy they are. They can't cash everything out that easily, and find a country willing to take them and let them keep it all. Plus not many of them are actually good at anything. It would be hard to make it elsewhere.

They are not part of the Silicon Valley crowd and they dont read The NY Times. They grew up under education and government cuts and got the short shrift. There is something deeply disturbing about his die hard followers, (pun intended).

(12,543 posts)it abuses my senses that this orange POS is even president.
Him and Romney were both draft dodgers, while I was doing my dead level best to stay alive, Trump and Romney were partying it up and just having a good old time.
I'll be willing to bet that most of his deranged followers have never served a day in the military, much less combat, except for those video games, like Call of Duty, etc.
What most of these so called wannabe warriors fail to realize is that there are literally hundreds of thousands of us liberals/progressives that are combat vets and are not afraid of defending our selves and families/friends, but if we're pushed hard enough, then they are in for a very rude awaking.
I truly hope it doesn't reach that point, but, IMHO, we're on the brink.

(6,477 posts)Al Gore was a Senator's son. He went to Vietnam.
John Kerry was born wealthy. He went to Vietnam.
John McCain came from a distinguished military family; his father was Commander in Chief, US Pacific Fleet. He went to Vietnam.
Weird. No Vietnam veteran ever became President, and likely now none ever will.

Fogerty signed away the rights to CCR's music and so it has become the "go to" music for the Vietnam era and I suspect that in some minds it is invoked to remind people of the anti-war protests and rioting of the late 60's and early 70's

(2,043 posts)I would not be at all surprised that Jared, or some other wise ass working in the Trump campaign, is putting these ironic songs out there on purpose. Well aware of the true meaning of the lyrics, it's their version of "shooting someone on 5th Avenue" and getting away with it. They are counting on the stupidity of Trump's base. They know the "UN-Fortunate Sons" in the shoulder-to-shoulder Trump-supporting crowds at the rallies will sing right along and continue to have a rollicking good time.
Yup. They're doing it on purpose. They think it's hilarious.
If only someone would unearth an audiotape of Trump and his family saying what they really think about Trump's base. But sadly, they would still love him. They sure didn't care when he called Southerners "dumb."
