Some Nebraska GOP members want to censure Sen. Sasse for criticizing Trump

Source: Omaha World Herald

By Rick Ruggles

Some Nebraska Republicans are angry enough at U.S. Sen. Ben Sasse that they want to formally censure, or rebuke, the Republican senator.

Sasse has been one of the few Republicans in a national elected position to harshly criticize former President Donald Trump.

At least two proposals have come from western Nebraska to censure Sasse on Feb. 13 at the Republicans' state central committee meeting in Columbus, Nebraska. Other proposals have come from individuals.

Hitchcock County Republican leader Bruce Desautels wrote in a 13-point resolution that remarks and actions of Sasse over at least several months deserve censure by the central committee.

Have at it guys! Just keep emphasizing (and illustrating time after time) that you really are the party of Q-Anon, loyalist reactionaries and wingnuts. Bring it up as often as you want. We'll help!

I was really expecting a bit of a surge after the Capital Riot. That that event at least would provide enough of an excuse.

Trump has more a hold on the party than I think we even realize. Its fascinating in a dark kind of way, how, like Hitler, or any of the ruthless populist leaders throughout history, are able to use a cult of personality to get away with every kind of disgusting behaviour and crime.

It is whomever is behind that dark money that keeps deluding their base into lunacy and getting these rethugs into power. We HAVE to remove money from politics. (Well, we have to remove money's influence from every aspect of our culture, but that's another story for another time.)

I will grant that Sasse may deserve some credit for not going full Koup Klutz Klan, but we should not forget that The Only Adult In The Room (self-proclaimed) not only voted to acquit at Trump's first impeachment trial, but has been a reliable rubber-stamp for 45's agenda all the way from ACA repeal to the Barrett confirmation. It's just that he, like so many other "Republican moderates," adopts a vaguely-disapproving frown while voting to implement everything the radicals come up with.
