ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) - Jacob Chansley, the "QAnon Shaman," regrets his involvement in the Capitol Riot that occurred on January 6, he said in a statement his St. Louis-based attorney released Monday.
Chansley is facing charges for his alleged role in the Capitol Riot. In a statement released by attorney Al Watkins, Chansley says he takes responsibility for his actions.
My time in jail has permitted me to start to reanalyze my life. I am deeply committed to ahimsa, a basic principle of non-violence which applies all living creatures, large and small. There was a lot that happened over time which led up to January 6, 2021. I am working on coming to grips with that.
I am deeply disappointed in former President Trump. He was not honorable. He let a lot of peaceful people down. I have to leave judging him up to other people. It is my aim to focus on what is important at this time. What is important is for me to apologize.

Sincerity rather than just going through the motions is the key.

He could have grabbed a bullhorn and attempted to stop the riot.
Instead, he stood on the upper level of the Chamber bellowing like a Cow.

I am so damned tired of hearing from the dumbest Americans we can scrounge up. Fuck this idiot. Fuck all of them that were helping to overthrow our government. Wish I was locked and loaded with my M-16 at the capitol on January 6th, instead of shooting at Vietnamese who were trying to save their country from imperialists. I'd gladly take down the whole front line of these treasonous insurrectionists instead of the guilt I have for shooting at Vietnamese who only wanted US GONE from their homeland.

(406 posts)Not meant in a good way. I thought we were divided then. Could not even have imagined ANYONE attacking the Capitol. We marched peacefully. A few may have stepped over the line and I feel remorse for them, but by and large (except for Kent State) people were not harmed by fellow Americans on American soil.
We are just beginning to learn the lessons of Vietnam and it will be fifty more years before we learn the lessons of January 6. We can only hope that our better natures prevail, even if we don't understand how.
Peace, my friend.

This is like when celebrities mess up, and they make themselves scarce in some rehab facility. So they can point out to the Judge that they have already started the rehab. Looks good for sentencing.
I'm willing to say that there are probably thousands of rioters who had no idea that they were committing insurrection. They thought it was a festival like Woodstock.
But the leaders have got to be held accountable. I think that a core of them were operating separately from their cover.
And, what was the name of the leader who took the WH tour the day before? Which one was he?

(294 posts)So he hasn't yet come to grips with his betrayal of non-violence. He will not allow himself to judge Trump; but he'll let others do it. If this isn't important at this time, what is? Stupid and entitled. This isn't Dungeons and Dragons.

(3,289 posts)Now he still needs to serve whatever prison time is appropriate to his crime(s). While he's in, I hope he uses the time to better himself, and also uses whatever platform he may have to try to bring other Q-believers back to reality. Once he's out, whenever that is, I hope he carries on trying to undo the damage he and his fellow travelers did to our country.
Saying "gosh, I'm really sorry" isn't going to keep you out of jail, bub. You done fucked up.

(81,610 posts)You're LATE. WAY late. And I'm not convinced.
You still need to make restitution. You still need to pay for what you did and what you contributed to. As Jamie Raskin put it so plaintively this afternoon: "people died that day."
You were DETERMINED to stick out and attract attention to yourself. You WANTED the spotlight, and welcomed it when you got it. You were everybody's media go-to, you made for good visuals (and I think you knew exactly what you were doing to achieve that). A veritable "sweetheart of the insurrection rodeo." This was INTENTIONAL. And you don't get out of it that easy.
You've gotta do WAY more than merely say you're sorry, dude.
