Alleged Capitol rioter asks judge for permission to travel to Peru to be married

Source: The Hill

An alleged Capitol rioter is asking a judge for permission to travel to Peru to get married.

An attorney for Troy Williams asked the judge in a brief court filing on Tuesday to allow the Kentucky man to travel to Peru on Feb. 23 and to return on March 10. Williams’s fiancé lives in Peru, the filing states.

Williams was arrested on Feb. 1, according to court records, but was released shortly afterward.

He is facing charges of entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly conduct in a Capitol building or grounds, and parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building.

He had legitimate goals of a democracy -- so he should be rewarded by going on a trip and getting married.

I'm white and every time I read about requests like this, immediately comes to my mind, "White privilege." It's like they think that their lives should not change because of January 6. Elections have consequences, and so do actions.

The Trump Humper White Privilege crowd are absolutely blind to the fact that there even IS White Privilege. I'm not sure if they have spent their entire lives living under rocks, but how in this day and age can anyone not be aware that there is White Privilege.

Based on my friends' political leanings, the insurrection-inclined took over their dad's businesses, or followed in parents' footsteps in peri-nepotism into real estate. Lot of Gentlemen's C- back of the class folks who got by on charm (white privilege). Big fish in small ponds.
They are full of "regret" for having to face actual consequences.

Jail time and felony convictions for all of them. No guns, no voting. Karma is a bitch.

Yes, those on Jan 6th who tried to stop the count of the electoral college, they they need to have a felony record and let them see what that does to the rest of their lives.

The right has been screaming that "they're coming for your guns, they're coming for your guns" since I was a kid.

No one's coming for anyone's guns. Social Security, yeah, but not guns.

They chose to commit felonies. Felons can't vote or own guns. It's just perfect, almost Shakespearean. What they fear most they're doing to themselves. Because they never learned the Golden Rule applies to them, too.

Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador, Nicaragua will frequently refuse extradition requests even though they have treaties. Also countries like brazil will refuse extradition requests for it's citizens, even naturalized ones (it is very easy to get brazilian citizenship).

Might as well say goodbye if they let him go.

First, I don't think he should be allowed to leave the country, but I'm not a legal professional.

Second, I've heard from several folks who are attorneys who handle cases every day, that requests like this, & the woman's request to go to Mexico for the "bonding retreat," by defendants like this, are routinely granted all the time & our justice system functions just fine with it. That's not what you should be mad about.

What you should be mad about is the fact that requests like this are granted MUCH less frequently when the defendant is poor or a person of color who doesn't have the wealth to afford a Mexican retreat, a Peuvian wedding, or a good attorney who can get them out for a thousand other good reasons (like a child's birthday, or school graduation). Those are the people who get stuck in jail awaiting trial.

If you want to be mad at something about this system, be mad at THAT.

Why do these people think they deserve special consideration? They are suspects in serious crimes. They are, imho, terrorists and should be put on no-fly lists. Fuck their previously scheduled vacations and wedding plans and organic food.

I know this has already been said, but it's probably worth repeating. If these people were Black, they would have been shot and killed. If these people were Black, every single last one of them would be held without bail. Or, at best, with bail but with ankle monitors.
These vile creatures are the definition and essence of white privilege.

They know they're all royally fucked: the insurrection didn't work, Trump isn't still in office, he refused to pardon any of them and President Biden has no patience for their shit. So, they're trying to go on the lam in a country that won't mail them back to the US.

And, fortunately for us but not for them, judges know this is what they're trying to do - and not allowing it.

However, I can see a Winston Shrout situation coming up. Winston Shrout was a sovereign citizen from Oregon who issued 300 fake International Bills of Exchange and taught others to do the same. They gave him 10 years federal time and he went missing for two years. In 2019 they caught him in Arizona, and he's now in FCI Terminal Island.
