(2,012 posts)If you have lived in DC, Chicago and New Orleans as I have it has always been this way. We just thought the deaths were black on black and cops had to shoot them.

(13,926 posts)They are used to being untouchable and running the neighborhoods to their liking. Their gangs power is being challenged. They are reacting with violence, as that is what has reliably worked for them in the past.

Clearly, many police departments are not up to speed about the BLM movements.
Do these cops have no plans for what to do if those they are trying to apprehend don't want to go along...besides just killing them on the street?
WTF?

Like when the cops standing there after Ma'Khia Bryant's killing said to bystanders, "Blue Lives Matter".
Good Lord. It won't be easy or quick to turn this around. And we must.

(12,847 posts)I mean, I hear they sometimes carry tasers, but they never seem to be able to find those.
So the only thing they know how to do is shoot things? WTF It's like they can't or won't exercise discretion about anything. Can cops no longer distinguish real threats from non-threats? Maybe their cop training is too short.

(53,998 posts)Then comes the training. Too many psychologically unfit creatures are unleashed onto the public from police academies because they weren't eliminated before training even started.

(5,242 posts)It is a question of authority and unquestioned compliance. See, we are supposed to bow to them and do what they say, regardless of how illegal or immoral (or just freaking insane) their actions may be. We are supposed to never question our capitalistic overlords or their lackeys. And, if we don't do this, then we obviously are not worthy of their attention, and therefore must be removed. This 'winner at all costs' mentality is why this happens. But, our greed and ego created this mindset, so changing it will be difficult. No one wants to be seen as anti-greed, because that is all but synonymous with being anti-American.

(16,155 posts)ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (AP) A North Carolina deputy shot and killed a Black man while executing a search warrant Wednesday, authorities said, spurring an outcry from a crowd of dozens that immediately gathered at the scene and demanded law enforcement accountability.
The Pasquotank County Sheriffs deputy was placed on leave pending a review by the State Bureau of Investigation, Sheriff Tommy Wooten II said at a news conference. He said the deputy shot Andrew Brown Jr. about 8:30 a.m. while serving the warrant in Elizabeth City, a municipality of about 18,000 people 170 miles (274 km) northeast of Raleigh. Local NAACP leader Keith Rivers said Brown was Black.
Wooten did not identify the deputy and did not say what the warrant was for. Court records show Brown was 42 years old and had a history of drug charges and a misdemeanor drug possession conviction.
The deputy was wearing an active body camera at the time of the shooting, said Wooten, who declined to say how many shots the deputy fired or release any other details, citing a pending review by the State Bureau of Investigation. WAVY-TV reported that neighbors heard multiple shots. A car removed from the scene appeared to have multiple bullet holes and a broken rear windshield.

Say maybe 3 years that way they can be well trained on how to try and defuse a situation not to mention the longer training time can be used to hopefully filter out the ones that should never be allowed to wear the badge on the streets.

(7,404 posts)The person doesn't need to be present when a search warrant is executed. All they are looking for at that time is evidence, not to make an arrest. So why were the guns blazing away when the man was unarmed.

(1,534 posts)They said that they have a search warrant for the house but unless there was a warrant for his arrest, or he was officially being detained he should have been free to leave.
Apparently he was free to be shot dead.

(708 posts)Here in Oklahoma it will be used as an excuse on POC more so than whites. Red flag laws where anybody can report are dangerous. Remember the same departments we are already concerned about especially smaller ones will be enforcing these. Many are already upset we made weed legal with a license and that excuse was taken away. Until theres real reforms made dont give them any more reasons to interact especially with POC.
