Rep. Cori Bush says she won't support qualified immunity compromise in policing bill talks
Source: CNN
Democratic Rep. Cori Bush of Missouri said she would refuse to vote for new policing reform legislation that compromises on civil lawsuit protections currently afforded to police officers, as negotiations on a federal police accountability bill are underway on Capitol Hill.
"We compromise on so much. You know, we compromise, we die. We compromise, we die," Bush told CNN's Abby Phillip on "Inside Politics" when asked about the compromise on qualified immunity floated by Republican Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina. "I didn't come to Congress to compromise on what could keep us alive. ... If you don't hurt people, if you don't kill people, if you are just and fair in your work, then do you need the qualified immunity anyway?"
Bush was just one of several lawmakers to weigh in on the federal policing reform effort, signaling that the issue of so-called qualified immunity remains, for some, a sticking point in congressional talks. The House passed the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act last month without Republican support, but it faces an uncertain future in the narrowly split Senate with Democrats pushing to change federal law to ensure that police officers can be charged for "reckless" conduct, rather than "willful" misconduct under existing law -- currently a higher bar to meet in court.

214 Democrats voted for it, only 2 Democrats voted against it - Cory Bush and Ilhan Omar. Among the 65 others who voted against it were Boebert, Gaetz, Gohmert, Taylor Greene, Gosar, and Jordan.

(24,354 posts)Do you have a list of the bills that were in that suspension to pass?
Because, at this point, it tells me almost nothing
That, "Boebert, Gaetz, Gohmert, Taylor Greene, Gosar, and Jordan" voted against it doesn't exactly move me in either direction as Greene votes against everything related to a suspension of rules to pass, Boebert votes against it almost all the time (both would likely vote against a motion for suspension to prevent Democrats fro being a political party just because).
Also, since it says bills (with an 's') there are multiple bills, none of which I could find at your link. (Maybe I missed the list)

Okay, I'll drop the several names I mentioned (even though they DID vote with them)
214 Democrats voted Aye.
2 Democrats voted Nay.
Obviously the aggregate of the bills and the final resolution in that catch-all phrase was good enough for 214 Democrats.

(24,354 posts)I was unaware that it would take a little while for the bills to put be posted
Thank you for that

Still, Democrats voted 214-2 for the motion.

(67,782 posts)....reviewing the list of votes my guess is that it includes the bills covered in the previous votes back to the last vote "On Passage" (i.e., #118)
If so, it would probably include votes #119 through #124. I don't see anything in the list of bills/resolutions/etc. for which a Democrat would not vote "Aye".
The list (and link at the bottom):
124 20-Apr H RES 330 On Agreeing to the Resolution P Providing for consideration of the bill (H.R. 51) Washington, D.C. Admission Act; providing for consideration of the bill (H.R. 1573) Access to Counsel Act; providing for consideration of the bill (H.R. 1333) NO BAN Act; and for other purposes

(10,500 posts)Cops knew one group was planning on attacking another club that was attending a legislative update on motorcycle profiling by police. This meeting was attended by dozens of bike clubs who are not 1% clubs but religious clubs, veterans clubs, clubs that exist to help foster children and many more non-violent clubs. Cops ambushed them all instead of warning them of the coming trouble. Then they arrested all of the survivors with cookie cutter arrest affidavits and put them under $1,000,000 bail.
All criminal cases were later dismissed but the civil case has been hung up on Qualified Immunity appeals. As long as cops know they are protected they will continue to abuse their authority!
