Roger Stone and Alex Jones subpoenaed by House committee investigating Jan. 6 attack on Capitol
Source: Washington Post
The House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol issued subpoenas Monday to more people involved with the Stop the Steal rally, including conspiracy theorist and right wing media figure Alex Jones and longtime Donald Trump ally Roger Stone.
The committee has asked Stone and Jones to provide testimony by Dec. 17 and Dec, 18, respectively, and to provide the panel with requested documents by Dec. 6.
Committee Chairman Bennie G. Thompson (D-Miss.) wrote Jones, the host of InfoWars, that his coordination with Cindy Chafian and Caroline Wren in organizing the rally that preceded the attack on the Capitol, along with his promotion of Trumps false claims of election fraud and urging of people to travel to Washington for the Jan. 6 rally make him a person of interest.
Thompson cites Stones appearance at rallies on Jan. 5 at the Supreme Court and Freedom Plaza as reason for the subpoena and his use of Oath Keepers as personal security guards, several of whom were reportedly involved in the attack on the Capitol and at least one of whom has been indicted.

(10,313 posts)I went to usurp a friend and he was going out when I got there so I went into the living room to wait for him. He had Alex Jones on. Loud. He knows I dont like the guy and turned it off when he got back inside. He starting telling me he doesnt trust the government so he likes to hear both sides of things and decide for himself. I told him thats a good idea, but when someone spouts bold face lies I turn them off both literally and figuratively. I wasnt going to argue about it. But Id never seen Alex in action before. Like most of those types he cherry picks a couple things and ignores the rest when he is pushing his agenda. Sometimes I wonder if these RW nutters really believe what they are saying or if they are just profiting off the rubes. I suspect its a little of both.

(21,516 posts)Joyce said that there is enough information out there right now for DOJ to open up a criminal investigation. I appreciate the work of the select committee, we needed it, but for justice to prevail we need DOJ to run with the ball. Joyce went on to say, assuming that DOJ investigates, that it then must make a choice whether to indict. She also said that whatever path DOJ chooses it owes it to the American people to explain its actions or inactions.
Remember this, those people subpoenaed can show up and plead the 5th. The select committee is limited, DOJ has more clout.

(13,925 posts)Mainly.. If i understand right.. they refuse, get referred for contempt. Assuming they are found guilty, they spend up to a year in jail.
What happens at the end of that?
Can they still be required to bring the evidence and testimony? Go through it again? How many repeated investigations can we have (the benghazi experience seems to indicate a lot)

Stone deserves to be in jail just for the threats he made to non-Trump delegates (on behalf of Trump) before the Republican convention in 2016.
It'd be really sweet if they could nail him on anything at all.
