Pope after US Christmas parade crash: May good overcome evil

Source: AP

ROME (AP) — Pope Francis sent his condolences Tuesday to the victims of the Christmas parade crash in Milwaukee that killed five people and said he was praying for “spiritual strength which triumphs over violence and overcomes evil with good.”

The Vatican secretary of state, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, sent the telegram of condolences on behalf of Francis to the archbishop of Milwaukee, Monsignor Jerome Listecki.

Francis asked that those affected by the “tragic incident” know he is spiritually close to them, and called on “the Lord to bestow upon everyone the spiritual strength which triumphs over violence and overcomes evil with good.”

Police say Darrell Brooks Jr., 39, was behind the wheel of the SUV that sped through the parade route in Waukesha on Sunday, killing five and injuring 48 others. Waukesha Police Chief Dan Thompson said Brooks was leaving the scene of a domestic dispute that had taken place just minutes earlier.

Thats about as effective as: "thoughts and prayers", however it is better than what the Fox people will do with the tragedy. But then again that's a low bar.

Worse than Pope Urban VI (1378–1389) or Pope John XII (955–964)?

Boniface VIII
Sergius III
Paul IV
and my personal "favorite" Stephen VI (google the "cadaver synod&quot .

Being taught papal history by a Jesuit priest was a real blast. He opened up the course by saying "We are going to study the papacy...warts, boils and all".

He was never shy about slamming the popes who justly deserved it.

9. the historicity of "Pope Joan"

did come up as a question.

The problem is that the 9th century popes have decent amount of sources to support their unbroken existence.

The legend of Pope Joan claims that she was pope from 855–857 CE. The problem is that crosses with the reign of Pope Leo IV who has really good historicity behind him.

Now, IIRC (I am drawing most of this from memory) is that the 1st mention of Pope Joan was 13th century(?) which would be 4 centuries or so after the dates in question so there is a legitimate question as to why no mention before. Additionally, the Church of that time and in the coming centuries (right thru the Reformation) would be have completely expunged any mention of her from every written document under their power.

(again IIRC) All of the close temporal mentions of Pope Joan were from friars who would have been under the control and thumb of the Church so the stories would have been wiped out.

Most of the total asshole US bishops hate him because he's not conservative enough. Rejecting refusing communion to pro-choice politicians and not promoting practical political speeches from the pulpit on anti-choice/anti-gay bullshit. Anyone leaving the church because of THIS pope is likely A RIGHT-WING ASSHOLE!!!! FUCK 'EM!!!! LET' EM BECOME A "BORN AGAIN" EVILJELICAL!!!
