Top Republicans stand up for Rounds after Trump's attack: He 'told the truth'

Source: CNN

(CNN)Senior Republicans are closing ranks behind Sen. Mike Rounds after he endured a scathing attack from former President Donald Trump for acknowledging the reality that President Joe Biden won the 2020 election.

"I think Sen. Rounds told the truth about what happened in the 2020 election," Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell told CNN on Tuesday. "And I agree with him."

The back-and-forth is the latest sign that many Republicans -- particularly in the Senate -- are eager to move past the former President's obsession with the 2020 elections and instead focus on more fertile ground: The Biden agenda and their efforts to take back both houses of Congress in 2022.

Yet, Trump continues to hover over the party given his outsize influence with the base, his close hold over House Republicans and his ability to generate attention over his outright falsehoods and conspiracies over the outcome of the 2020 election. That has prompted concerns among senior Republicans that his claims over the election could depress GOP voter turnout in the fall, something that a number of senators blame for costing them the two Georgia Senate seats -- and the majority -- last January.

mealy mouthed I agree with what he said…master deflector that one.

Here, say this, word for word…

"The election was fair, as fair as we have seen. We simply did not win the election, as Republicans, for the presidency," Rounds told ABC News.

We hate the orange menace, then the guys cool as Jesus, then he’s the orange menace again, then he’s cooler than Jesus, now the orange menace again…the same one?

M getting dizzy, please help me!

After another Mad Max rant from the orange menace reported somewhere, don’t care…

Rounds described as the most congenial of men, although still support the orange menace up to this day….

………..

"Nobody is out looking for confrontations," Rounds said, defending his remarks. "What we are looking for is to be able to provide good information in a timely fashion, but to be seen as being responsible and being honest. I think that's what the American people deserve. And I think that's what many of us want to do. We're not looking to fight. What we're looking is, is to say here are the facts, and they're not going to change."
Rounds added: "Why are we having that discussion today? I think because we're getting closer and closer to 2022, in which we want people to get out and vote. We want them to have faith in the election process. We want them to feel like they're a part of it and that their vote really matters."

This is nothing but providing cover for Manchin to not vote to bypass the rules to pass voting rights. A few Repugs Senators saying the election was fair is all the cover they need to stall the voting rights bills.

Once its too late they will flock to Trump as needed for the midterms and change their tunes.

Once they're through their Primaries, all their messaging will be about how bad they claim the Biden/Democratic policies are.

That said, the Democrats should try to tag them with Trump (he'll probably do that himself).

Not even almost, kinda, sorta, a little bit. He's a total loose cannon. He'd never been interested in taking advice, or even suggesting, from anyone and he's not about to start now.

He's like the Rum Tum Tugger: He will do as he do do, and there's no doing anything about it!

There are some republicans that will always view being a Trump cultist as a way to getting elected believing they need that base. Others are seeing the damage being done by him and want to move the party past him, and there are still others who don't want to put their presidential aspirations on hold while he plays, "Will I - Won't I," with running again, and some of those with presidential aspirations won't put them on hold if he does decide to run again.

Hopefully, it will tear the party apart.

These Repugs especially Mitch play chess and the long game. This is nothing but a ploy to stop any passing of voting right. Once they get to the midterms they will all flock to Trump. They are just trying to give Manchin cover so he can say there is no need to bypass the rules to pass voting rights because Repugs say the election was legitimate.

Hes always got a plan B. If TDP goes down it will be nothing for the Repukes to recover and this is how they will. the Dems either have total victory this year or kiss it goodbye. The Repukes will spin a crooked Orange man off as a conman that conned many in their party just as he did voters, and thanks to a few Repukes the con was blown open and not only were we all saved from TDP, we were saved from socialism by the trure core of conservatism. Im telling ya, Liz Cheney is still her phreakin dad.
