Fourteen months ago, USC quarterback Caleb Williams was a freshman backup at Oklahoma entering the Red River Rivalry game against Texas hoping to give the Sooners a spark.
Now, the 20-year-old is a Heisman Trophy winner.
On Saturday in New York, Williams -- much like he did on the field this year -- left no doubt that the Heisman was his, securing the award given to the most outstanding player in college football in a decisive victory. Williams outraced Georgia's Stetson Bennett, TCU's Max Duggan and Ohio State's C.J. Stroud for the award.
Williams received 544 first-place votes. His 2,031 points easily beat out Duggan, who finished second. Stroud was third place, followed by Bennett.

(182,970 posts)Havent seen him play. Dont watch near as much football as I used to. West coast.
I think its great that players can move like any other student. Imagine hes stuck at Oklahoma when his coach splits. He signed on to him not the school. Back in the day the Bryants Neylands and Royals recruited players to keep them away from in state rivals and each other. Sat them on the bench.
Good for him. I guess he has a year left.

(37,137 posts)We are just now finding out about this news. Its as if Nora Odonell tells us at six pm that something that happened at 10 am on the same day is late breaking news. How could that possibly happen? How do we determine if something in the greatest threads is great? Or in the latest threads? Is it really a latest thread? How is anything in My Posts really mine? Is there really intelligent life in Mississippi? Why doesnt the Catholic Church pay taxes? Is it time for me to go to bed?

(3,402 posts)He already seems better than many starting NFL QBs. I assume several teams have already been tanking to get him.

(3,401 posts)the only two losses he had this year.
Sometimes defense is better than offense.
Still, congratulations on your outstanding season and a well deserved Heisman trophy, and many more successful years in football.
