School choice supporters vow to continue fight in Kentucky after Supreme Court ruling

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by JudyM (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).

Supporters of school choice measures say they’re not giving up bringing the education policy to Kentucky, even though the state’s Supreme Court struck down a law Thursday that would have allowed education opportunity accounts in the state.

While supporters vow to continue their push, Gov. Andy Beshear, who vetoed the bill last year, said in a statement the court’s ruling should settle the issue.

“We can’t send public dollars directly or indirectly to private or charter schools, nor should anyone try,” he said. “The answer is to work together to improve our public school system. Let’s provide funding, let’s provide that raise so that we can get enough teachers in the classroom and let’s invest in technology and social and emotional learning the way we need to.”

Didn't realize the state that gave us Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul had a Democratic governor!

All science, all the time! Critical thinking in the curriculum from 1 st grade onward - how to debunk cereal advertising and read the nutrition label would be an excellent place to start!

Math needs to be taught as a tool, for figuring out stuff! Not an elaborate puzzle....

property taxes (support for public school) when your kids graduated from high school and were no longer in public school. I could not believe her ignorance!!

That certainly wasn't the way it was in France when I lived there. Or at least, I don't think so. They really put a lot of money into their schools and paid families who had children. We should do that but we don't. then we would not have children living in poverty.

We will end up paying to allow religous organizations (however questionable) to get their hands on public funds to teach their religion in the name of "education" while continuing to pay NO TAXES!

Gotta luv us some well paid (by big right wing and religious) lawyers.
