Musk's Twitter poll says he should step down from social network's helm
Source: Washington Post
SAN FRANCISCO Elon Musks own Twitter poll results say he should step down from the helm of the social network, in a referendum that Musk promised to follow after broad criticism of his stewardship of the company.
The poll closed early Monday morning after twelve hours of voting, with 57.5% of more than 17 million responses calling Musk to step down. He later added, As the saying goes, be careful what you wish, as you might get it.
If Musk follows the results of the poll, it could thrust the company into even more uncertainty. Musk will remain owner of the social network, which would still give him enormous control over its policies. But he has not yet said who he would choose as his successor, and that person could steer the company differently, and perhaps less erratically, than Musk has for the past two months.
The billionaire and self-dubbed Chief Twit purchased the company for $44 billion in October and made himself chief executive. Since then, it has become a frequent subject of his tweets, and employees have said hes been a regular presence at the companys San Francisco headquarters.

The billionaire and self-dubbed "Chief Twit" purchased the company for $44 billion in October and made himself chief executive. Since then, it has become a frequent subject of his tweets, and employees have said he's been a regular presence at the company's San Francisco headquarters.
But that has raised concerns among investors -- particularly in Tesla -- that the entrepreneur is stretched too thin. Some have questioned his effectiveness as CEO of two large technology companies, wondering whether he can effectively serve in both roles at once in addition to head of the rocket company SpaceX.

(129,987 posts)my concern is with his SpaceX that so far, he hasn't micromanaged (at least yet). But until Boeing gets their human space flight systems fully up and running (they recently had a successful dock with the ISS with a test module) then that is the only thing we have to get crew up to and back from the ISS, and we sure as hell will no longer be using Russia to do that.
I wish someone would buy SpaceX and get it out of that lunatic's purview.

He has too much going on then wasting time on some dumb website. This was his plan all along. Get it running and then step down and just be owner.
This was his plan all along. Get it running into the ground and then step down and just be owner.😁

(589 posts)it'll probably keep being the toxic hellpit it's rapidly become...no matter who he installs as a figurehead. He's way too impulsive, controlling, egotistical and Trumpian to leave it all to someone else for any significant amount of time.

(12,393 posts)Saudis and Qataris are the "main" honchos of Twitter?
And they are demanding the richest man step down?
The GQPs are dutiful in their sick plot of destroying the USA.

They are the second biggest (after Musk, who controls over three quarters of the firm) shareholders but far from a controlling interest and the entire deal was not dependent on the Saudis at all.
I detest both Musk and the Saudis, but I keep seeing the same misinformation (overstating the role of the Saudis) repeatedly here on DU, which is frustrating.

Stretched too thin? Is that a nice way to say he doesnt know what hes doing, and everything he touches turns to shit?

This "poll" is just to provide the illusion of choice.

(62,534 posts)Tha musky wont step down. He claims he didnt name a successor and is railing against people on Twitter saying they could do a better job than him.
Im beginning to think he didnt expect this result.
This is like a fucking soap opera. Hes literally crazy.

Musk posted that Tweet after he posted the poll, but long before the final result, though the writing was on the wall even early on.

(71 posts)Newbie in DU but longtime Twitter poster and new refugee. Musk ran a handful of polls prior to this one and he canceled them when he didn't like the results. I don't expect Musk to honor the results of this poll. Ownership of Twitter is unsustainable to Musk. He paid too much for it. He faces $1B in annual interest payments. His investors in Tesla are increasingly nervous. Advertisers are fleeing the platform as well as many longtime posters. Bankruptcy is in the horizon for "Space Karen."
