NY attorney general to review issues raised about Santos
Source: NY1.com
New York state Attorney General Letitia James on Thursday said her office will review a New York Republican accused of fabricating parts of his life story.
George Santos, 34, was elected to the U.S. House in November to represent New Yorks third congressional district and had boasted an impressive academic and professional resume during his campaign.
However, a recent New York Times investigation into Santos reveled many details about his life, including his previous employment at both Citigroup and Goldman Sachs, may have been a lie. The probe also raised many questions about his finances and campaign disclosures.
Santos faced immediate backlash following the Times publication of the story, but his attorney, Joseph Murray, has dismissed it as a smear campaign. Republican leaders in Congress have declined to answer questions about the congressman-elect. There has been no word on whether a federal investigation will be launched into Santos alleged fraudulent behavior.

(24,350 posts)West Virginia requires you to live in the state for one year prior to being eligible to run. If you don't, then they pull you
They kicked a woman running out of the U.S. House Republikkan primary because she lived in North Carolina
Had she won and the state found out after, by law, she'd have been ineligible to take office, and they'd have had a special election

So the question becomes: When did this bozo become an official resident?
If any NY residents know differently, by all means, correct me. I'm only going by what that one site says, because it's the official site about running for office in NY.

(47,711 posts)other lies to cover, a lot more than we heard before. Might as well just itemize where he told the truth if you can find any.
This is so bizarre. He didn't even try to sound credible, just one blatant lie after another, not even half-truths. Did he really think he'd never get caught? He is either terribly naïve or poorly coached by his Russian handlers.

(1,766 posts)The Democratic candidate did have some oppo research that this scumbag was fishy, and our worthless media ignored his attempts to get the info out there.
I know this will shock some of you, but this is par for the course for our scumbag media. I keep telling y'all that way too many "journalists" are, in reality, r thug stenographers and cheerleaders--and have been for over 40 years now.
Have you ever wondered why there are always more r thugs on the Sunday morning political shows?
Because the media is NOT liberal!
Do you ever wonder why they take every r thug outrage du jour and run with it, time after time after time after...?
Because the media is NOT liberal!
Have you ever wondered why our scumbag media harped on (and on and on AND ON) about made up scandals like Whitewater, Travelgate, Filegate, Benghazi, her emails, Clinton Cash, Al Gore's "sighs" and "inventing the internet," the Swiftboat lies about John Kerry, Obama's tan suit or what kind of fricking mustard he put on a burger...all while ignoring or whitewashing or waving a dismissive hand at blatant criminality and immorality from the r thugs?
Because the media is NOT liberal!

(12,601 posts)Paul Harvey said you could tell Dubya and Laura were in love because "they just look like they're in love." (as opposed to the Clintons, I guess, who didn't meet his standards for expressing that emotion.)
From that point on Bartcop referred to Harvey as "that old horse-fucker," because he just looked like a man who would fuck a horse.
RIP, Bartcop. We miss you.

(2,391 posts)He claimed on his campaign site, his mother was in one of the World Trade Center buildings 0n 9/11 but escaped unharmed. It sounds fishy as hell coming from this fraud. His biography is Zelig-like. I don't know what crime he could be charged with but he is definitely a lying liar. I would love to see Republicans lose a seat before the new congress convenes. But I doubt it will happen.
AND...
I would also like to know how someone who got evicted from two mediocre apartments loaned his campaign $700,000. That is where an actual crime may have occurred. If someone else gave him the money and he claimed it was his own, that is a campaign finance violation. This is going to get good (for us not him and the Republicans).
"If any person, including a relative or friend of the candidate, gives or loans the candidate money for the purpose of influencing any election for federal office, the funds are not considered personal funds of the candidate even if they are given to the candidate directly. Instead, the gift or loan is considered a contribution from the donor to the campaign, subject to the per-election limit and reportable by the campaign."
"The new statutory maximum term of imprisonment for even the least serious of these offenses is now two years, and for more serious offenses, the maximum term of imprisonment is five years. To effectively punish these offenses, the Commission chose to create a new guideline at §2C1."

(35,807 posts)Defeatist attitudes like this promote passivity in responding to these aggressive thieves who call themselves republicans. In reality, they are nothing more than criminals trying to hack into biggest accumulation of money ever in the history of humankind: the U.S treasury, funded by the American taxpayer.
You are implying that if he's seated, he's legitimate. Too late, so sad. Nothing could be further from the truth.
First, one of the means to determine his legitimacy requires that he be seated first. The House Ethics Committee cannot do anything until he is seated.
snip from Roll Call:
If Mr. Santos takes office, his reportedly false biographical claims, inaccurate financial disclosures, and undisclosed criminal background will warrant an immediate investigation by the Office of Congressional Ethics. He has refused to address these concerns and must be held accountable for his ethical transgressions, Kyle Herrig, the president of Accountable.US, wrote.
The office would not have any jurisdiction over Santos until he becomes a member of Congress. There could be enough questions about Santos resume to challenge him being seated on Jan. 3, though it would seem more likely that an investigation and possible sanction would take place after he takes office.
Not only is Letitia James looking into this, Dan Goldman is calling for a federal investigation:
Rep.-elect Dan Goldman, a prosecutor for the first impeachment of President Donald Trump and a former assistant U.S. attorney in the Manhattan-based Southern District of New York, said Tuesday that the U.S. attorney's office in Brooklyn should investigate Santos.
Goldman, a Democrat, said in a statement that the allegations in the Times reporting suggest potential false statements to the Federal Election Commission and the charge of conspiracy to defraud the United States.
As I understand it, the only way to prevent him from taking office is if it is shown he is not a citizen.

This silly asshole needs to retreat and retreat fast because whomever is financing him is about to be exposed. Even if he doesn't retreat, that is going to come out.
