NEW YORK (AP) — Former President Donald Trump will be formally arrested and arraigned next Tuesday in his hush money case, court officials said — an announcement promising the historic, shocking scene of a former U.S. commander in chief forced to stand before a judge.

As the Manhattan court confirmed the timing on Friday, the streets outside had calmed from earlier in the week. There were no large-scale demonstrations for or against Trump, though tourists stopped to take selfies and throngs of reporters and police officers remained assembled.

When Trump turns himself in, he’ll be booked mostly like anyone else facing charges, mugshot and all. But he isn’t expected to be put in handcuffs, he’ll have Secret Service protection and will almost certainly be released that day.

Sometimes judges make the defendants stay within the jurisdiction until the trial is over but I doubt the judge do that here, because it would mean he can't hold his hate rallies.

Most judges will allow traveling of indicted criminals to another jurisdiction for the purpose of testifying if subpoenaed, if they need to be arraigned on other charges, and so on.

Even incarcerated felons can sometimes get transported to another state if they're needed to testify. A former coworker was on a plane coming home from Hawaii when a cop brought on a guy sporting those cuffs and the waist thing to cuff the ankles, too. He was apparently called to testify in a drug trafficking case on the mainland. The co-worker said that it was the scariest and yet quietest flight he ever took. Even the people traveling with kids kept their young ones under control.

The arraignment date was supposed to be today, 3/31/23. The SS did NOT request that the date be moved because they were caught flat-footed by the Court notice. Yet the date was moved by the presiding judge, which strongly suggests that the judge was given wrong information by the defense and trusted that he was being told the truth.

Trump wanted the delay. With the delay, he could amass more protesters for an appearance in NYC. But he could also be setting the scenario in which he refuses to leave MaL and gets limited protection by DeSantis, heightening tensions among all of the forces in the arrest and arraignment.
