Ukraine asks court to put Orthodox leader under house arrest

Source: AP

By KARL RITTER an hour ago

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — In a bitter dispute over a famed Orthodox monastery, Ukraine’s top security agency notified a leading priest on Saturday that he was suspected of justifying Russia’s aggression, a criminal offense,

Metropolitan Pavel, the abbot of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra monastery, Ukraine’s most revered Orthodox site, has resisted the authorities’ order to vacate the complex. Earlier in the week, he cursed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, threatening him with damnation.

During a court hearing in the Ukrainian capital, the metropolitan rejected the claim by the Security Service of Ukraine, known as the SBU, that he condoned Russia’s invasion. Pavel described the accusations against him as politically driven.

“I have never been on the side of aggression,” Pavel told reporters in the courthouse. “This is my land.”

Our radical clerics get a pass. Even run for political office - and win.

and most of them are FSB agents. Putin rebooted the Russian church, but under his terms and under his thumb. They're very good at rooting out disloyalty, all the faithful bring all the gossip to them.

The retaliation for kicking the FSB agents out of the churches and eventually out of the country is the rise in "Ukrainians are Satanists" talk on Russian propaganda TV because the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is separate and has been since 1921 and Putin hates what he can't control.

(The seat of the Russo-Ukrainian church was in Kyiv from 988 until the 1880s, when it was absorbed into the Russian Orthodox Church. As a result of the official policy of atheism after the Bolshevik Revolution, the seat of the church was moved back to Kyiv in 1921. There were several branches of the Ukrainian church that were unified in 2019. So for 900 years, Kyiv ran the whole thing, something the Russians love to forget, and the Russian seat only lasted for 40 years and was a parvenu and the new church is not their friend)

Yes, spot on. Ukraine needs to clean house of any and all KGB/FSB agents promoting anti-Ukraine sentiment.

Russians have used horrific propaganda against Ukraine for centuries. They twist and turn the truth. So Ukrainians are called Nazis or satanists or the Holodomor a lie or that the present war is against NATO. I'm sure I am just scratching the surface with the anti-Ukrainian Russian vitriol. The trouble is, some people believe the Russian lies.

Russian Media Monitor has more if you don't mind listening to your brain cells die of shame. The stuff up until the last month or so when it became obvious that they're out of gas, out of men, and out of everything else and still haven't taken Bachmut was toxic as hell. Now they've actually had a few people on who have been using real sarcasm and laughing when it flies over the heads of the ranters.

My favorite was early last fall, when Ukraine was sending genetically modified pigeons into Russia to spread disease. I have to wonder if they were trying to prevent the peasants from dining on squab during the planting season so the aristocrats would have better shooting later on, slandering Ukraine in the process. Odder things have happened.

I have to be in the right mood to watch that stuff, popcorn and extreme boredom help. There are a few propaganda vloggers I also watch, but mostly to watch what's happening behind and around them, it's very enlightening in a way they didn't intend.

So Slava Ukraini and I hope this mess is over by the end of the summer, at the latest, Russia kicked back within its borders and Putin having to explain himself in front of his country for the first time in his rotten life.

a few years ago. This appears to be a continuation of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church moving further away from Russian influence and control of church finances and doctrine.

Good for Ukraine. Slava Ukraini!!!

about what's happening on the ground with these guys, it's a long podcast and I think this starts about a third of the way through. It discusses a bit of the hierarchy and history and what the Russian priests are up to. and what's happening to them when they're caught.

As usual, cell phones are bringing the bastards down.

Religion is kept around by the filthy rich in order to control the masses. It's a scam. And Putin knows how to use a scam in his wars.
