A Tulare man was sentenced on Friday to 300 years in prison for molesting a group of children in the late 1990s.
Steven Brian Arey was convicted in April on 20 counts of lewd acts with a child under the age of 14, according to a statement from the Tulare County District Attorneys Office. Each count carried the special allegations of substantial sexual conduct and being committed against multiple victims, the DAs office said.
Each count was a felony and considered a strike offense.
The majority of the crimes took place over a period of six years beginning in 1996. The victim was a boy between 7 and 13 years old at the time.

If I may add one to your list. Men who work for the Boy Scouts.

(25,256 posts)to them like ants to sugar. These organizations need to thoroughly vet everyone who works for them.
I used to be a volunteer for the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program. I had to provide 4 written references (which were each checked), have a police background check done, take a psychological exam to rule out behaviors or disorders that would be considered harmful to children, and have a one on one interview in my home with the local director of the program.
Church employees and volunteers, Scout leaders, coaches - anyone dealing with children - should go through a similar vetting process.
