Gaza's crowded hospitals near breaking point as Israeli ground invasion looms

RAFAH, Gaza Strip (AP) — Palestinians in besieged Gaza crowded into hospitals and schools on Monday, seeking shelter and running low on food and water. More than a million people have fled their homes ahead of an expected Israeli ground invasion aimed at destroying Hamas after its fighters rampaged through southern Israel.

As the enclave’s food, water and medicine supplies dwindled, all eyes were on the Rafah crossing between Gaza and Egypt, where trucks carrying badly needed aid have been waiting for days as mediators press for a cease-fire that would allow them enter Gaza and allow foreigners to leave. Rafah, Gaza’s only connection to Egypt, was shut down nearly a week ago because of Israeli airstrikes.

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said Israel “has not taken a position to open the crossing from the Gaza side.” The Israeli government did not respond to a request for comment.

Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians sheltering in U.N. facilities are on less than 1 liter (1 quart) of water per day. Hospitals warn they are on the verge of collapse, with emergency generators that power machines like ventilators and incubators down to about one day of fuel and supplies of medicine almost exhausted.

has not worked this time…and Israel electorate is NOT near united behind the idea of The Exodus, now with previously deleted scenes of mass carnage in an open air prison!

Distraction, misinformation, planted information, suppression and distortion of facts…hasn’t worked…the images of slaughtered ba it’s annd baby body bags and videos are too…real.

No one wants to witness in real time the Directors cut of The Exodus…again, or for many, the first time!?

The IDF has lost the propaganda wars…without that the impending massacre and the current forced exodus of a million child march of misery and death won’t be palatable to the western media.

Hamas will not hang around Gaza waiting for Israel’s land invasion to begin because they know they will be outnumbered. This kind of violence just generates more violence and more revenge.

relevant tidbit….puzzling oversight!?

Although to be fair there are cracks opening…unlike sealed off Gaza…no cracks no gaps…hermetically sealed human open air prison deploying ancient military siege tactics…demoralize by starvation, surrender or die! Women and children and infants not excluded!

How soon until shortage of tiny body bags?

Like the great debate over massive American military spending…it never happens so it doesnt have to!

Look away!…hasn’t worked…this time. The watching world won’t permit it…and Biden won’t either it appears…hope?

here on DU are too, I am VERY sorry to say.

But we in the US have almost never gotten a balanced view of happenings in the ME, especially wrt Israel-Palestine issues.

All the same, there are several courageous US reporters - many of them Jewish - who try to inform us fairly. They are there if one looks for them.

Bravo to those who do!

Reporters are giving innocent civilians and families that chance…so of course understanding this….those that don’t want to see the truth…attack the messengers, and not just figuratively..

Release the hostages immediately and Egypt take refugees. Those should be the focus, but the media ignores Egypt’s part in this especially. There are many rich middle eastern countries that could temporarily take the Palestinian refugees. But for some reason, they get a pass.

Aren't they available to help the injured? Gaza is coastal so why not send them there?

14. I don't think the UN itself operates hospital ships.

It’s like military forces - member nations can contribute them, but they’re not on the UN’s payroll.

Still, good question - shouldn’t the US Navy deploy one of its hospital ships?
