The Texas Supreme Court late Friday temporarily halted a lower court order allowing a Dallas woman to obtain an abortion in spite of the states strict bans, after she learned her fetus has a fatal condition.
The state courts ruling was in response to an appeal from Attorney General Ken Paxton of Texas, who opposed the womans abortion.
The Supreme Court said that, without regard to the merits of the arguments on either side, it had issued an administrative stay in the case, to give itself more time to issue a final ruling.
The stay meant that, for the moment, the order from a judge in Travis County district court permitting the abortion was on hold. That order allowed the woman, Kate Cox, to obtain an abortion and protected her doctor from civil or criminal liability under Texass overlapping abortion bans.

(22,066 posts)Its the 21st century, FGS. If there is an underground network, I want to believe she has safely been taken to where she has care, and she and her family can rest out of the spotlight of the media and the threats from politicians. She and her familys lives are forever changed even tho they never thought it was gonna be like this. I wish safe travels and good care for all of them and no harm to their providers in whatever capacity they choose to help. We cannot and will not live like this and Ill bet its gonna be a hard fight for our rights but were gonna fight for them.

Needs to be a top concern in the 2024 election. It has to be the number 1 issue. And it really is. If the right to reproductive care goes down so does everything else. VOTE people! Lives depend on it.

That nationalizes the story and lets everyone know just how cruel EVERY fucking Reptile is and that Dems are for women's rights and medical sense. It will get every top headline and push abortion above "Bidenomics".

Folks that think their morality is based on what they don't do.
Folks that think they can achieve "eternal life' with their "heavenly father" by preventing other people from getting health care. How screwed up is that - and there is an entire propaganda machine dedicated to selling that nonsense.
The GOP picked their antiabortion platform because it doesn't cost anything to oppose abortion rights. If they wanted to feed kids, that would cost something, if they wanted to make adoption easier, that would cost something. a bunch of political con artists that have teamed up with a bunch of religious con artists to gain money and power.
It's so sad watching the apathy, willful idiocy, and corruption of moral decency that has infested this world.

Texas women should recall Paxton from office. Child bearing aged women should flee the state.

It will be VERY difficult for any other state to challenge their exalted status as ANUS OF THE UNIVERSE!
Paxton's obscene depravity has been plain for all to see for a long time now. Is it something in the water? 'Cause he sure as hell ain't alone blowing bubbles in that bottomless cesspool of unspeakable evil. Malevolent mendacity is so ingrained in the Lone Star state's self-image that it actually has a distinctive and stomach-churning odor.
Oh, I know there are truly good people in Texas, but they're both awfully quiet. OH! I hear indignant howls of protest over that observation. Perhaps if those impotent objections were converted to action, things would change for the better. If Paxton, Abbott, Patrick, and their malignant minions were removed from power by the righteous fury of a populace fed up to the teeth with the Machiavellian machinations of utterly monstrous men that screech about freedom, even as they impose the most restrictive, invasive, and draconian laws in the country in their unconscionable quest for dominion over the lives of others, then I might be inclined to revise my low opinion of the place.
Of course they target women first! Because there is nothing that their base of weak and resentful white men fears more than pissed off WOMEN. And that's how they condition the electorate to accept the unacceptable. Exercise ruthless control over that which they fear most, and they'll follow you to their own slaughter like good little piggies.
Voltaire said it best: Anyone who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities.
And there can be no doubt in the minds of decent people that what the Texas Supreme Court just did is, without a doubt, an atrocity that will result in truly horrific consequences, not only for Kate Cox, but for ALL the women of Texas.
But that's only the beginning. You're next.
End of rant. For now.
