Federal appeals court upholds Steve Bannon's contempt-of-Congress conviction
Source: CNN
A federal appeals court on Friday upheld the contempt-of-Congress conviction of Steve Bannon, the ex-adviser to former President Donald Trump who was found guilty after failing to comply with a subpoena from the House January 6 committee.
The US DC Circuit Court of Appeals rejected several challenges Bannon made to the case, including his claim that the trial court excluded evidence he should have been allowed to put before the jury in his defense.
This story is breaking and will be updated.

Bannon was sentenced to four months in jail in 2022, but the judge overseeing his case agreed to postpone the jail term while Bannon appealed the decision, agreeing that the complex mix of laws that govern executive privilege and testimonial immunity for White House aides could be overturned by higher courts.
But a three-judge panel of the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected Bannons argument, saying the former aide and prominent podcaster had no legal rationale for his blanket refusal to appeal before the committee.

(33,620 posts)Full appeals court next, then SCOTUS, who will probably decline to review.
But, if MFer is elected, he's pardoned.

(33,418 posts)Bannon has yet to be charged on his involvement in the conspiracy, and actions leading to January 6th. This conviction is about his refusal to respond to the subpoena from Congress to testify before the Select Committee.
Of course he's guilty, he didn't show up. I think he was sentenced to 6 months in prison, am I right?
Also Bannon goes on trial later this month for his "We Build the Wall" fundraising fraud.

(33,418 posts)Maybe it won't mean much, once the criminal justice system is done with him.
Also: Bannon may have a pocket pardon from Chump - there's speculation that he does have one. But it's not going to keep him out of jail for the "We Build the Wall" fraud, nor the failure to respond to the Congressional subpoena. Both of those happened after Chump left office, and pardons don't work for future illegal activities.
