Burned remains ID'd as fugitive ex-cop Dorner

Officials said Thursday that the burned remains found in a California mountain cabin have been positively identified as fugitive former police officer Christopher Dorner.

Jodi Miller, a spokeswoman for the San Bernardino County sheriff-coroner, said the identification was made through Dorner's dental records.

Miller did not give a cause of death.

Glad you're here. Great post. I think that just really nails it. He was indeed a tormented man. Yet whatever happened to him did not give him license or cover to do what he did.

Just horrible and sad as can be. And traumatizing to so many! I have a friend who has a cabin in Big Bear. He was stuck up there all weekend, very worried, and we down in the flats were worried about him, too! He made it down well before the worst of it started happening. Thank goodness. Hard to get the others who weren't so lucky out of my mind.

The whole situation left me with heartache as well as a reaffirmation that two wrongs never make a right. Whether that is the case here or not.

If he was wronged, I am glad they re-opened the case and hope they can put this contriversy to rest in a satisfactory way. And I thank the courage and commitment of all LOEs who work hard and do a good job when they put their lives on the line to do what they do.

There are multitudes of good ideas and opinions and experienced, highly-informed takes on just about any issue we kick around together here. I learn stuff every time I visit - and I'm pretty much addicted to this place by now. I visit it several times a day! More often than not, I read about breaking news here before I see it on TV. And there is DEFINITELY more, and more detailed information here than you'll find anywhere else. At its best, the conventional media only scratches the surface, because it's chained to quick-hit formats and short-attention-span viewers/readers. And along with the wealth of details you can find here, you can also find companion analysis and enlargement by some pretty damn brilliant thinkers and writers here. And besides that, some of those brilliant thinkers and writers are players and participants. For example, the late Elizabeth Edwards checked in here frequently. I believe Alan Grayson still does.

9. I differ in that remembering history to keep from repeating it can involve remembering the names of

the infamous in action. And finding out if this man was wronged is important as whatever his crimes, the whole truth should be made known.

I feel a no mention policy is more appropriate in the case of those stealing valor with tales of false military exploits, or cheat like the gambler Pete Rose, or doper Lance Armstrong.

What I want to know is did he kill himself, did he die from injuries incurred during the shootout, or was he burned alive?

10. Another good question will be whether there were fire accelerants present

in the home, especially on the walls etc. That would tend to show whether (a) Dorner either set the fire himself or had plans to set a fire himself and (b) whether police could have reasonably anticipated that the cabin would burn down so quickly due to the use of incendiary tear gas cannisters.

..on the CNN audio.. you can plainly hear:

Deputy #1....."go ahead with the burn".

Deputy #2.. "Burn the MF'er down".

They pumped incendiary tear gas shells into the cabin... just like Waco and Ruby Ridge.
You can bet your last dollar.. the Sheriff set the fire and wanted Dorner to die.

That being said... why were they so desperate to kill this guy? ($1 million dollar reward).

Slightly off topic but realted....Why did Obama sign NDAA on New Years Eve when no one was looking?

16. (A) The tape where they said to use the burners did not say

"burn the fucker down" or anything of the sort. There were two separate tapes--one where the guys who are getting shot at rant almost incoherently and the other where they say "deploy the burners" and then note that there was a fire, and then note that there was a gunshot from inside the cabin.

(B) You are pushing McVeigh talking points by citing Waco and Ruby Ridge, especially since the Waco fire was started by the Davidians. And then the off-topic bleat about Obama signing a bill on New Year's day.
