China to end organ donations from executed prisoners

Source: BBC

China has pledged to end the practice of taking organs from executed prisoners within the next five years, state media report.

Officials say the country would instead rely on a new national donation system for organ transplants.

Prisoners account for two thirds of China's transplant organs, according to previous estimates from state media.

Human rights groups say death row inmates are pressured to donate organs - China denies such allegations.

That seems more brutal than using organs for transplant.

I'm sure they have a backlog of outstanding orders that have to be filled first.

First, they have to complete the testing of political prisoners for tissue match.

It's not easy. Even if the practice is ended, there will need to be exceptions, for party officials and other well-connected folks.

why they wouldn't use the organs.

On the other hand, I don't believe in the death penalty - but yet I still don't see why not use the organs since people do need them.

I liked the short story in his universe where the guy was facing the DP and organ harvesting because of too many traffic tickets.

If they had moral compunctions, they'd stop now.

Five years? Sounds like a project plan.

What guarentee do prisoners now have that the execution will be a nice, clean kill? Now the executioner may just come in drunk, and make a complete pig's breakfast of it.

I guess China ran out of political prisoners ... or freezer space for all of those donated organs. Maybe now they can clean that pistol before the next roundup of political prisoners that are sure to materialize.
