The Far Right Is Getting What It Asked For

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/opinion/the-far-right-is-getting-what-it-asked-for/ar-AA14Q8wO?cvid=90e931cb7c304794bffbbef8bcd07446

**snip**

Ye’s Infowars disaster is emblematic of something that seems to be happening across the far right. Although their messaging is always noxious and hateful, right-wing shock jocks and politicians like to employ thinly veiled innuendo and dog whistles to rally their audience. The game is to push the boundaries of social acceptability but leave just enough room to deny culpability when things go off the rails. Then they can blame political opponents for bias and censorship when they’re criticized or suspended by the supposedly “woke” left.

But things are taking a turn, and it’s not just about Ye. Though it’s always been a sewage system for political sludge, Twitter has recently lifted its floodgates under Elon Musk’s ownership, reinstating banned accounts, suspending researchers without cause, and drastically reducing content moderation overall. The New York Times reported today that hate speech has “soared” on the platform in the weeks since Musk’s takeover. And there’s reason to suspect that things may get even worse: Musk said yesterday that he wants to foreground “view count” on every tweet, which could encourage attention-grabbing and incendiary posts even more than the platform already does.

It’s a dog-catches-car moment: Republicans are getting what they asked (and tweeted) for, and finding that it makes them uncomfortable by association (in public at least). The makeshift walls have crumbled around the far right, and it’s flummoxing those who try to launder their message for a wider audience.

The question is, do we go after this stuff (because hate-filled rhetoric often leads to violence and there could be lives in danger) or do we give them enough rope to hang themselves?

who very much would like to see Twitter destroyed. Twitter to people around the world is a powerful source of communication.

Everything is going according to plan for anti-democratic forces.

Donnie of Orange threw down the gauntlet in 2016. That's his core appeal to his base. He makes it OK for them to be their noxious selves in public. To spout shit they believe that's socially unacceptable. And unacceptable for damn good reasons.

Then again, that makes it easy for the rest of us to identify the noxious and odious and act accordingly. Maybe they're doing society a favor by stepping away from deniable ambiguity and being themselves.

They are hypocrites masquerading as Christians. There is nothing Christian about hate speech. Nothing Christian about anti-semitism. Ahem -- Jesus was a Jew just in case they forgot that he was supposedly descended from King David. Nothing Christian about being mean-spirited. Nothing Christian about beating the crap out of someone. Nothing Christian about being mean-spirited and wishing ill on others.

Who is supposed to be the moderate in the GQP.

Apparently 75% of these moderates would vote for Black Hitler over Joe Biden.

I don't wanna hear anything about AOC anti semitism.

there are fewer tfg's bumper stickers and year around yard signs than before. A lot fewer. The espionage aspect of the document theft is hard to overlook, even for the diehard Skeeters. DeSantis isn't revered like tfg. The maga crowd can smell the Harvard/Yale on him.

While it would be fun to let their dumpster fire burn we have good reason to believe there are full propane tanks in the dumpster (to continue the analogy). The damage they'll cause will extend beyond themselves and hurt everyone, and while they won't care and may actually revel in their ability to cause pain and suffering actual adults recognize that you have to try and stop them.

The recognition of the immaturity on the right raises a lot of other questions. For decades they've patted themselves on the back as the "grownups" in the room, while simultaneously deriding the "nanny state." I'm going to point out that "nanny's" are adults put in place to supervise children not mature enough to make good decisions for themselves. In retrospect can anyone tell how much of "conservative thought" is actually trying to make a cohesive functional world view, and how much is rationalization for temper tantrums.
