America's Economy was Bigger Than We Thought
I haven't read it myself, yet, but Matt Hodges' posts are worth checking out. Have a nice day DU.

But that's neither here nor there... our economy has always been resilient, even when the banks weren't.

(4,405 posts)I did the math one time and my conclusion was so much of the economy is in the dark. People wonder why the engaged employment rate is supposedly only 68% or so of the working age population. Where are the other 32% making a living? While certainly some are trust fund babies or living on mom's couch in the basement, the other truth is that drug dealing and other off the books enterprises and jobs are simply uncounted. Having a couple of relatives that work what most would call honest jobs (tree trimming and welding), but do so off the books, for cash and skipping taxes, I think most national economic models are at best based on only 75% of the facts.
