the Goths, Vandals, and Franks are ignored . Not to mention earlier immigrants like the Cimbri and Teutoni.

Makes you think more about colonization, empire, citizenship and immigration today and 2,000 years ago. Thanks for the post. Points for the Bard and Roman history.
Shakespeare and the New World is also a fascinating subject. His 'Tempest' was based on accounts of the Jamestown convoy shipwreck on Bermuda. And a grandson of Shakespeare inherited land near Jamestown, Va. (absentee), the Upper Brandon estate and manor house believed partly designed by Thomas Jefferson and held by the Harrison family until its recent sale. Small world.
