(17,609 posts)Some of these people are running the republiCON party talking against government when they don't even know what gov does. That last guy had me cracking up.
Funny, how they shut up once they realize "THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT IN THE HELL THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT..Need more on the ground interviews like these.

(35,392 posts)the one guy, in essence, saying that he trusts the government when it claims someone's a terrorist ...
and the point being made "I always hear people saying that the government can't do anything right."
I guess when it's a non-white, the government is right when it labels that non-white a terrorist ...

(11,012 posts)is so much better than the idjots who showed up for the tea party rally and many of them from out of town.
Many, many years ago, my dh worked for the radio station (under previous owners in Limbaugh's early days of syndication). The station carrired several talking heads in the afternoon. DH would tell me about the funny guy named Rush Limbaugh and how great he was. I would occasionally visit the radio station and hear his broadcast and do my best not to toss my cookies all over the control board. But DH though he was great, until Limbaugh visited Jacksonville and all the radio personalities went to see him. Then DH caught him out in several blatant (and very insulting) lies and it opened his eyes.
There is hope for some of those people in the video, but they have to have their eyes open and first.

(18,998 posts)This is their chosen path and career and they can't let lies get in the way of that...in the end it is all about money.

(11,012 posts)they could under a better system. This area was hit very hard under Bush 1 and recovered very nicely under Clinton. Then we went down hard under Bush II and we still haven't recovered, although things are somewhat better.
And there are a lot of stupid, uneducated people in the world who believe lies fed to them by those they with whom they have invested their trust. (BTW, while I don't know about the radio personality -- don't listen to that station -- the radio station itself was bought out by people from elsewhere, the Carolinas, I think.)

(1,361 posts)Before the Reformation, everything was known. The universe was with "fixed ends" and you knew your place in it. You knew where you were, why you were there (to serve God) and what your destination was (cue the harps and choir).
Government was also fixed and unchanging unless by war. So there was no need to worry about any of that stuff either. Therefore, you don't challenge the church or the king. Just go on about your business and everything will be alright. If not now, definitely later. As long as you gave your money to the Church.
Today, there is change and lots of it.And it happens quickly. Change is frightening because we don't know where it leads and this brings feelings of insecurity.....just think of the things in the world you might now be anxious about: Greece, Portugal, Spain, Italy and the Euro and how that might lead to a depression. War with Iran. Reduction in Social Security benefits.
Some of us have even more immediate worries.
If I get sick, how will I pay for it? Our pensions. Meth. My kid's future as well as my own. Where is the next mortgage/rent payment coming from? Is my job going to be outsourced to Pakistan?
But Rush knows the answers. He knows what is going wrong, who makes it wrong and how to fix it. That is his appeal. If we listen to him, he does your thinking for you. All you have to do is listen, do what he says and the world will be righted.
That is his appeal. It is fun to honk on the losers who follow Rush. But remember. They are scared for their future as well as we are of ours. The interviewer in the video did those people a service. Maybe one or two of them learned something from it.

(47,675 posts)The video made some good points about their ignorance, but the editing undermined the message quite a bit. It came off as the interviewer lecturing people and not really giving them time to respond. A few of them did seem to have legitimate points they wanted to make and the scene changed before they could get out an answer - right or wrong. I think it's better to let them speak "to remove all doubt" that they're morons. Taking the "BillO" approach just lowers us to their level. I'd really like to see a longer version of this clip with a more coherent flow and more discussion - well, if they leave the squeaky voice woman out.

(590 posts)I've gone through some of these misconceptions with TB's myself but I've yet to see a convert even when they are outright stymied. I think they feel that they would lose face with their peers; they worship the Rush and Fox with no shred of critical reasoning. Their arguments don't even make sense. These people are in the Matrix and perceive themselves as noble loyalists to the Rush. They don't even know who he is really. Some here who recall Tokyo Rose would say Rush (et al) is today's version yet media corps still put them on. Class action lawsuit possible? Or is Rush the New Age mafia boss?
