Countries around the world are marking the United Nations' Global Day Against Tobacco.
Despite strict controls in many countries on the sale and advertising of tobacco products, sales continue to remain strong, and share prices continue to rise.
The World Health Organisation says that while there have been successes in forcing tobacco companies to conform to health warning regulations, those companies are now undermining anti-smoking campaigns.

(51,122 posts)6. Or at 48. Like my father.
A lot more people die at a younger age due to the added degradation that smoking causes. Cancer is a tiny portion of the deaths.
The 'the years you lose at an advanced age that suck anyway' is just another creation of the insidious tobacco industry.
Toddlers die due to being exposed to smoking. All age groups do.

(10,178 posts)7. Or at 32 like my father, but he was an exception. His 2 sisters smoked into their 80s. Life
is a crapshoot.

I only quit because it's just too expensive anymore. I don't really miss it, it's always been a take it or leave it thing for me.
