RepubliQons like to frame it that way, and hide their giveaways in tax breaks -- much harder to trace forgone revenue than payments.

ALL tax deductions should be replaced with subsidies and payments. That's proper tax simplification.


Want to benefit fossil fuel companies? (not me) Give them a payment instead of hiding it in a "depletion allowance" that only appears on private tax returns, never as budget line item. They COST THE SAME. You'd never get a budget through these days for fossil fuel subsidies, but the FATCATS DON'T HAVE TO FACE THE SCRUTINY; they have tax benefits and dodges.
