Raskin: Trump Is Constitutionally Disqualified From Holding Office For Insurrection Participation- MSNBC

Donald Trump being referred for insurrection participation by the Jan. 6 committee to the Department of Justice is discussed by committee member Rep. Jamie Raskin. "Liz Cheney today said that Donald Trump was ethically unqualified, which is absolutely true,” Raskin tells Joy Reid. “But he's also constitutionally disqualified from holding office having participated in insurrection." - Aired on 12/19/2022.

I honestly don’t think he’ll get the republican nomination. I really don’t.

I agree with Cheney - and I usually agree with Raskin. But, I'm not sure about this... I missed Joy Reid, but I'm watching the repeats now and Rachel Maddow is speaking now... if Trump has been disqualified, it will be stated, hopefully...

He's made no preparations, has hired no staff, that he only made the announcement in the hope it would shield him from prosecution.

... raised and it's understandable. Also, someone said he not running because he knows he will lose and doesn't want to lose (maybe Michael Cohen?). Still, I think he is running, seriously, because he's as crazy as he is crooked.

... in going along with Cohen's point, he could run in the Republican primaries, where he thinks he can win. Then, he could pull some stunt at the convention and get out of running in the general election, if he thinks he will lose. He likes pulling stunts.
My belief is that he IS running, but only speculating and considering the Cohen view. Also, he likes to be the lead in every newscast.

But for reasons that he does not like, he's been leading the news since he left office. That's never happened in my recollection unless a former president is building houses for the poor or building a presidential library.

Good question n obviously I’m not a lawyer or a scholar. Hopefully, some DU friend can help with this question. I might be just a little to anxious so better get the facts.

This is NOT politics talking - Jamie Raskin knows his stuff. He teaches constitutional law at American University Washington College of Law. He earned his JD at Harvard Law School.
