1. Good morning!

The worst part of that is the local news now engages in the same tactics cable news does.

Follow the titillating stories, ignore the corruption going on in your state! My state is a classic example of that. Spectrum 1 sits in the city where our state government is. More of the corrupt way they went against the state Supreme Court, who 5 times ruled their gerrymandered maps were illegal.

The Governor put himself on the unbiased committee we voted on twice. His son, on the Supreme Court refused to recuse himself. They still lost.

This, with other states doing the same thing gave us a Republican House! The local news ignored this. They were too busy chasing Trump. That helped JD Vance, who knows nothing about being a Senator. He beat Tim Ryan, a long time fighter for the people in the House.

It is disgusting how our Media is corrupted. Spectrum used to be Time Warner, owned by Comcast.

Sorry for my morning rant, but my state is regressing to the days of Herbert Hoover. We have a bright spot with Intel, but Biden is responsible for that. The CEO waited until the CHIPS bill was signed before breaking ground.

2. Not that I watch local news that much (except for the weather), but it's the same here in New York

And the news source is Albany, where we at least reelected a Democratic governor. But, inexplicably, her opponent was the most Trumpian, bigoted Rep. in the state - and though his unfortunate district couldn't have been farther away (tip of Long Island!), there were signs for him all over the North Country here. In fact there's still one remaining that I pass regularly on my way home.

And we have Spectrum news here, too - not to mention that the Albany CBS affiliate is also Sinclair! Not that I ever watched them anyway, since I promised a fellow DUer years ago that I'd avoid them after the female anchor shut down her brother's local band performance because she was doing a remote news broadcast nearby - and she was not nice about it, no big surprise.

Though I do change the channel most weeknights just in time to see their signoff and the announcement to "stay tuned for Stephen Colbert..." Has she ever watched him?!

3. An opinion writer at NBC is actually blaming Democrats for not doing deeper oppo.

I worked the Nassau County congressional races. We did our best to warn voters, but at a certain point it just comes across as partisan talking points.

Where were the journalists? They had three years to develop and then report this story. (Santos ran against Suozzi in 2020 and then for the open seat in 2022.)

Why couldn't the NYT et alia do their job when it really mattered?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The finger pointing and blame shifting by this media careerist is frankly disgusting.

Why the George Santos fiasco points to Democrats’ political malpractice

The Republican is in the hot seat over claims that he may have lied about his past, but it’s Democrats who have egg on their face if it's all true.

4. Just saw that on cable. Going back and forth

Between local and cable. According to the weathermen and women we are getting, 2 feet of snow, or maybe 2 inches, could be rain, but all agree 0 wind chill.

Santos ran twice, lost the last time and no one checked his credentials? Can you even imagine what the next 2 years will be like?

At least several states voted Democratic. I have never seen the corruption in my state, ever.

As Jason Johnson pointed out last night, oppo research is often done by parties, and THEN sent to news desks, so often, the public thinks that journalists get credit.

Santos should not be seated; he should be charged with defrauding his district voters.

on troubling questions about Santos's finances, and the Cook Political Report picked up the story in October.

As for Jason Johnson, I don't recall seeing him around as we knocked on doors, chatted up Democratic accomplishments, and shared concerns about Santos's virulent anti-abortion stance, his bone fides as a Trumpist (he was on the Ellipse on January 6 and claimed to have sent checks to the defense fund of insurrectionists), and his unexplained rise from middle class to millionaire in a mere two years.

Sorry, but this is on the media careerists who were so busy stoking their preferred NY story line (CRIME! CRIME! CRIME!) that they didn't even notice that they being played by a consummate criminal.

That Long Islanders were taken in must show more their lack of awareness of the facts than Democrats knew.

That the Santos fiction all comes out now is more the pity, and also a lesson in how narrative control by distraction and fact suppression can change outcomes.

10. Tens of millions of dollars in negative ads ran in the NY markets in October and November.
Wed Dec 21, 2022, 03:50 PM
Dec 2022

In an effort to elect Lee Zeldin governor, conservative superpacs flooded the zone with tens of millions of dollars in attack ads and mailers tying Democratic candidates to apocryphal "radical socialist, defund-the-police agendas". Lee Zeldin is under investigation for illegally coordinating with those superpacs.

The right wing superpac cash machine amplified the "crime / inflation / dangerous radical left / socialist Biden agenda" messaging 24/7 for several weeks. And the press (for the most part) willingly played along.

We worked very hard this year (like we do every two years) to keep NY-3 and NY-4 blue. Those seats flipped red (at least in part) because the Lee Zeldin campaign had a coattail effect, even though Lee Zeldin himself lost.

And now, five weeks after the election, the NYT has its blockbuster, click-garnering exposé and the Republicans and media villagers are clucking their tongues and pointing at Democrats.

8. "The Leader Told You So: US Rep-Elect George Santos is a Fraud - and Wanted Criminal"

The Leader Told You So: US Rep-Elect George Santos is a Fraud - and Wanted Criminal
By Niall Fitzgerald

In a story first broken by the North Shore Leader over four months ago, the national media has suddenly discovered that US Congressman-elect George Santos (R-Queens / Nassau) - dubbed "George Scam-tos" by many local political observers - is a deepfake liar who has falsified his background, assets, and contacts. He is fact a wanted petty criminal in Brazil.

The New York Times published a lengthy expose on Santos this week detailing that virtually everything Santos has said, filed and published about himself is a lie.

Santos claims to be a "wealthy man" in corporate finance, who owns mansions in Oyster Bay and the Hamptons; was a graduate of Baruch College and attended New York University; lost four co-workers in the 2016 mass shooting at the Pulse gay nightclub massacre; has millions in cash assets - and even spoke at local Synagogues claiming he is Jewish. All lies.

Instead, Santos is a really just a petty criminal from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He is currently wanted in Brazil on criminal charges of committing elder fraud and check forgery. He stole checkbooks from the elderly patients of his late mother - who was a home healthcare nurse - and forged the checks to steal merchandise, according to prosecutors in Brazil.
