Proud Boys Want To Subpoena Trump To Testify At Their Trial - Ring of Fire

Members of the Proud Boys group who are currently standing trial on charges of seditious conspiracy hope to subpoena former President Donald Trump to testify at their trial. It isn't completely clear if they want to implicate Trump and blame him for what happened, or if they are hoping that he will exonerate them. But the chances of actually issuing a successful subpoena against Trump are slim to none, as Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains.

Members of the Proud Boys are currently standing trial for Seditious Conspiracy, um, which of course could land a lot of them in jail for many, many years. And as their trial continues, they have decided that they would like to subpoena Donald Trump to come in at the trial and act as a witness. Now, the subpoena has not officially been filed, so we don't know if they're actually gonna do it, but more importantly, we don't know why they want Donald Trump to show up in that courtroom. It could be because they want Trump to go up there and basically, you know, defend them and say, yes, they did nothing wrong. These are good fine men. And I told them to do what they did that day, but that ain't gonna happen. Even if you do get Donald Trump in that courtroom, I mean, he'll talk about how good he you are because he did say Proud boys.

You know, stand back and stand by. Um, but he's not gonna say that he's the one who told you to do what it is you did. If anything, he would walk into that court and they would grill him so badly, that he might end up implicating himself in it as well. So, sorry, proud Boys. But your Seditious Conspiracy trial is probably not going to feature Donald Trump. And what's interesting here is that this is not the first time in these Capitol Riot, uh, uh, you know, uh, uh, court cases, excuse me, that somebody, a defendant has suggested bringing in Donald Trump to, you know, act as a witness on my behalf. Um, and of course, the previous times this has happened, the courts have said, no, Donald Trump is not on trial. And that's the thing about the Proud Boys trial too. You can say that Trump wanted you to do this all you want, but Donald Trump is not the one on trial here.

He was not hit with criminal charges over it. He's sure, sure he is being sued over it, but he has no, you know, compulsory obligation to come and testify at your trial. You have to be able to put up a good enough defense. Donald Trump does not know you personally, and therefore cannot serve as any kind of character witness about what your plans may have been. So I don't even think the subpoena is going to end up materializing, but I also want to talk about the fact that the Proud Boys, unlike a lot of the other Capitol rioters that have been charged, they're being charged with Seditious conspiracy, which is, you know, far greater than what any of the other Capitol rioters have been charged with. And the reason for that, and, and I think this is an important distinction that we do have to make, is because the Proud Boys had plans, right? They went there with an agenda according to prosecutors. That's why they hit them with these charges. The other Capitol rioters really were people

Who did get swept up in the moment, you know, still guilty as hell, by the way. I'm not trying to excuse their actions at all, but most of those people didn't go to that stop the steal rally with plans to do horrible things later in the day. They ended up doing horrible things later in the day, but that wasn't like, they didn't wake up this morning. They're like, well, we're storming the capitol today. According to prosecutors, the Proud Boys are completely different because they did have a plan to do that, or at least do something to disrupt the certification of the electoral college votes. Again, that's what's being alleged. You know, we can't say for certain until, or unless they are convicted or acquitted, but that's what's happening right now.
