And it does send an encouraging message - there is no Republican party anymore. The party of Lincoln, or of Ike - or even of Reagan is long gone. When President Clinton wanted to pass the Assault Weapons Ban, he called on the former presidents for support and that was Carter, Ford - and Reagan! These days, they have literally have no platform, it's whatever TFG says or thinks or wants.
