One of my co-workers named Rueben was involved in a very serious traffic accident Friday night. He was out riding his motorcycle when a car ran a red light and hit him. He has survived so far, but barely. When the paramedics arrived at the scene of the accident, Rueben was in cardiac arrest and they had to revive him. I don't know how long his heart had been stopped. I'm not sure if he had regained consciousness at any point before they brought him to the hospital. From the sound of it, I don't think so. He has swelling on his brain and his back is broken in two places. They need to do surgery on him, but they can't until the swelling on his brain comes down. He is currently in an induced coma and in intensive care. Thank you.

(10,418 posts)I'm sure whoever they are they probably feel terrible over the whole deal. I'm not sure if charges would be placed in such an accident.

(31,408 posts)Too many people run red lights. It's scary to see it. Some of them aren't even close, either, when it's already red and they go through anyway!
Motorcycle riders are so vulnerable in any kind of accident. I had a grad school classmate who used to ride his motorcycle on the L.A. freeways to class at UCLA. One morning he came in white as a ghost. Said he was selling the motorcycle and getting a car. He'd had a close call--too close--and this guy was a Navy medic (Corpsman) in Vietnam. He'd seen it all.
