1. Tyson chicken farm,

Nebraska feed lots.

Corporate farming sucks!

2. Panama fish market in the 70s.

Though, a very, very cool experience.

3. A bookshop toilet in Boulder after a co-worker

"dropped a bomb" in there.

There was practically a full building evacuation needed.

This was thirty years ago, and it still haunts me.

4. A fish paste factory in Thailand in broiling heat.

5. Downwind from a coke plant near Pittsburgh.

Pyridine, thiophenol, and all their misbegotten, inbred relatives were there in abundance.

6. A rendering plant near Iowa City

"Rendering" means taking dead farm animals (cows, hogs) and pulling off anything useful. Often by the time the animals were brought in they'd been dead a couple days and stunk really bad.

most of the people that worked there had no sense of smell.

7. Stinkiest place: Naples, Italy ... the entire city

There was a garbage workers strike at the time.

on edit: The worst smelling place that leaps to my mind is a dumpy hotel I stayed in Vietnam. I can't remember the city now, though. It was in the Mekong delta area.
