I'm not saying that every speaker is quite like this. But I took a few courses in it many years ago and even the most "casual" user tended towards what us hearing enabled would have considered "expressive". What we call "tone" in our voice, a bit like ALL CAPS in text, is done with facial and physical expression in ASL.
