I need to buy a new couch but have never gone furniture shopping before. What are the best places to buy a couch? I'm in Colorado if that makes a difference.

(8,059 posts)the start of Covid. Or American Furniture Warehouse, or Furniture Row. I've bought furniture from all those places over the years.

Consider looking for a used (recycled) furniture store in your area as another option.

Two were from Costco, or at least through Costco. I wanted two leather couches for our living room. We live in the living room - it isn't just for looks so the couches need to take the abuse of two large dogs and two normal people. (One dog is about 100 lbs). We let our dogs on our couches. They have their blankets. Leather is easy to clean. The company that makes them sent color samples.
The two couches came relatively quickly. They used masks and gloves and brought them in and set them up. They've taken daily abuse since April 2020 and are in great condition. The leather hasn't been scratched.
The other couch I bought for our upstairs den, and I bought it at Wayfair. We rarely use that room, but dh didn't like the couch that we had up there so I replaced it. I doubt it would hold up to daily abuse from two dogs but that's not an issue in that room.
So I guess my point is that I've been happy with buying couches that I've never seen in person before. I read the reviews of course and those generally provide a lot of insight.

(4,533 posts)I bought a brand new leather couch there in 2011 - no shipping, no delays, less than 1/2 of what they wanted at Tulsa's most popular furniture store.

(17,028 posts)I wanted a 4 seater with a switchable chaise. The cushions are removable so cleaning is simple. It came in several boxes and was easy to put together. The cushions are nice and firm. Theyll send fabric samples.

(9,291 posts)its for any military person, or veteran. Its the only place I have purchased furniture online and it will actually arrive. I tried to buy a comfortable rockers for my living room, and had two orders canceled because they just couldnt arrive. Took over 6 months for the chair to arrive, counting the time I wasted on the other two orders.
Also look at Ashley furniture, its fine.

(5,823 posts)companies that have estate sales (.org, .net, etc.). We have purchased many quality furniture items over the years. Also local yard sales. Don't pay full price for a cheap piece of junky furniture if you don't have to. There is a couch out there right now with your name on it.

(31,420 posts)Wayfair for my new house. Made here in North Carolina by Klaussner. Fabric. They will send you samples. Been living with them since last January when I moved in and very happy with both. The couch has removable covers and the cushions can be flipped. Paid about $1200 for the 92 inch couch and $700 for the recliner. Both contemporary style.

(28,134 posts)Then go to showrooms to sit on the sofas. Don't be too hurried about making your decision.
Also, look for a durable fabric, hardwood frame, and hand-tied springs - they'll last much longer. Remember, "you get what you pay for."
(I was in custom-ordered sales for awhile.)
