(14,143 posts)Mr.Bill
(24,380 posts)I had heard that Paul Newman spent some time in West Virginia among the locals to get the accent down. The context was that that's where he thought the Luke character came from. The author of the book, which was somewhat autobiographical, Donn Pearce, was born in a suburb of Philadelphia, but did time on a chain gang in Florida. Thanks for your answer.
Harker
(14,143 posts)That's probably where that answer came from.

That year, the regular players walked out after week three, and replacement players were hired by the owners to play for the next 3 weeks until the strike was settled by week seven.
The Washington Redskins replacement players won all three games they played in
(weeks 4,5 & 6)
Name one of the three NFL teams they defeated during that 3-week period.
The last game they played as replacements was on Monday Night Football (ABC)
Harker
(14,143 posts)That strike pissed off my store manager enough that I was able to purchase his two season tickets to Mile High Stadium for two years, thus being witness to the coming of John Elway.
