and there was not a frozen green bean to be seen.
Obviously there are going to be a lot of green bean and mushroom soup casseroles lurking on tables on Thanksgiving. The horror!

Seriously, what is Thanksgiving dinner without green bean casserole?

(29,098 posts)Just replace the green beans with chopped broccoli and add some parm. Its far more edible!

But damn if I didn't get constant comments about how they were only edible if you slather them in bacon..
Has anyone checked out the price of bacon lately? Good heavens... Nope--garlic, olive oil-roasted veggies it is.

(11,664 posts)Replacing green bean casserole with mushroom soup and fried onions on top with brussels sprouts and broccoli flavored with garlic parmesan and *gasp* olive oil?!? ... whats next kale and hummus at the Thanksgiving table you pinkos and you'll have us watching soccer instead of red blooded American football. No wonder 'real mericans don't trust us to teach their kids in school...

(3,416 posts)Half of the family hates mushrooms. Me, I hate the grey gloop from the canned soup. Yuk! If I'm going to serve green beans, they will be in butter sauce topped with slivered toasted almonds. Broccoli is also welcome. Kale, not so much.

(17,151 posts)olive oil, salt, pepper, and a few minutes before ready, put some french-fried onions on top and let them heat through. Leaving the soup out saves 10 carbs in the casserole. I like it.
